As a fan of team USA with no dog in that fight. Why are we talking about refs? They played virtually no role in that game. The most obvious missed calls were a few waived off icings for reasons unknown. That’s about it.

Yes, we clearly watched different games, cause I didn't see a ton of quality chances for Canada either, and I don't agree that the whole game took place in the Czech zone.

I think Czechs outshot Canada... maybe some of those icings hit Levi if they were in their zone the whole time?lol

The international standard is not to have refs of the same country referee the game: it creates bad optics when some calls are missed one way. Would it change the course of the game? Probably not but it’s still annoying to see missed calls break.

I see no reason why bringing in say 8 referees from US/Sweden (or any country really—just enough to have a non same country referee team) would be a tremendous burden.

Anyways I’m departing this thread as it’s clear that I’m more likely to be attached by Canadian fans who view it as an insult (although consider the converse situation affecting your team)

Note that I’m a Florida fan who is quite happy that our future backup is doing well for the Canadians

Worry about that problem when it happens. It hasn't been a problem all tournament but now it comes up when teams now get eliminated and fans become more emotional.

Picking a goalie always seems like much more of a dice roll than most skaters, just my opinion. But I agree he's got to be making Florida feel good right now.

McMichael had several great chances he didn’t bury until the goalie was on the bench. Not his best game.

By far the worst Canada team in a long time. One dimensional, primitive players incapable of 1 vs 1 plays. And by far best goalie in like 15 years. You will win it.

Are you new to HF?

If it was US refs, posters would say they are biased to North Americans.

If it’s European refs, they are biased because the IIHF is in Hockey Canada’s pocket.

There is no scenario where the refs aren’t in favour of Canada somehow.

Eh I didn’t like the missed cross check on Czech player in a game where the Czechs had no power plays. I worry about it before it determines the outcome in a more competitive game

Don’t forget Hofer who was also excellent last year, Carter Hart was solid in 2018 too.

The way Levi was playing it likely wouldn't have made a difference. But once again a team sealed its fate pulling the goalie too early (the Panic Roy strategy).

The Czechs were applying steady pressure and had no reason to pull the goalie with over three minutes left.

Guhle has been awesome all tournament. He’s a beast out there.

He’ll be a big returning player for us next year.

He’s been Canada’s 3rd best D in this tournament imo. Montreal has themselves a top-4 D there for sure.

you still outshoot an opponent and spend most of the game in your own end, especially when your shots come outside scoring areas. at no point in this game was thinking the Czechs were about to score, I thought maybe they'd get a goal of a counter but they were wasted near the end from playing defense all game. I mean it was 3-0 and the Czechs played prevent denfence. this game was never going to be a barnburner. Our goalie held the Czechs scoreless because they Canada kept the Czechs to the outside and he faced non threatening shots.

I mean on the empty net goal and you tell just how gassed the Czechs were, #10 didn't even bother checking mcmichael He just let him skate by him at the blue line.
