Toronto area
to Los Angeles Kings
QUINN HUGHES (2y @ $7.8500m)
TEDDY BLUEGER (1y @ $1.8000m)
NILS HOGLANDER (3y @ $3.0000m)

total cap = $12.6500m

to Vancouver Canucks
BRANDT CLARKE (1y @ $0.8634m RFA)
PHILLIP DANAULT (2y @ $5.5000m)
TREVOR MOORE (3y @ $4.2000m)
Liam Greentree
2025 LAK 1ST

total cap = $10.5634m

NOTES FOR LOS ANGELES
Trade Spence + pick + prospect to NYI for Pulock. This adds a bunch of cap, which means that the top 9 RW that would be replacing Kuzmenko will need to be a lot cheaper. Overall though, a forward group that's weaker is balanced out by a stronger than ever D core.

Kempe - Kopitar - Laferriere
Fiala - Byfield - ( UFA )
Hoglander - Blueger - Foegele
depth guy - Helenius - depth guy
13F = depth guy
14F = depth guy

"depth guy" = Lee / Malott / Turcotte / Thomas

Q Hughes - R Pulock
M Anderson - D Doughty
J Edmundson - ( UFA )
7D = Moverare

Kuemper

( UFA )

NOTES FOR VANCOUVER
Trade Willander out 1 for 1 - or package Willander with other asset(s) - and bring in a promising LHD... Power / Byram, Nikishin, Bichsel, Korchinski, Mintyukov / Zellweger, Lindstein, Molendyk, etc. Power, Nikishin and Mintyukov would be the 3 hardest to acquire here, but also the 3 most worth trying to find a deal for somehow.

Joshua - E Pettersson - Garland
O'Connor - Chytil - ( UFA )
Moore - Danault - DeBrusk
Aman - ( UFA ) - Sherwood
13F = Raty
14F = Bains

(Power/Nikishin/Mintyukov) - Hronek
M Pettersson - B Clarke
E Pettersson 2 - T Myers
7D = ( UFA )
callup = Mancini

Demko
Lankinen
waived #3 = Silovs

Whanever you can trade Norris -caliber D in quality for quantity trade for middle-6 forwards and prospect, you do it.
An elite 3rd line shutdown center, an NHL-ready top RHD prospect with projectable top pairing potential who looked good in the LAK top 4 during the playoffs, an above-average 3rd line LW, one of the best under-20 RW prospects league-wide, a 1st round pick, and over $2 million in cap space. In exchange for 2 years of Quinn Hughes and two average 3rd liners who are probably better suited as very good 4th liners on a cup winner.

This is the biggest spin post I’ve seen in a while. 10+ teams beat this offer.

Hughes+ for danault+ is an interesting frame work where Vancouver gets a center

Buffalo will not trade Power for Wilander+ futures

Any potential trade involving Hughes with the Kings starts with Byfield+

There's no conversation or discussion otherwise. And I completely get why LA wouldn't want to trade him plus one of their top end prospects. So it's just not a deal that happens.
The whole Canucks organization combined won't fetch Byfield.

Beside that i agree, this trade is not happening

What cap space do they have?
According to Puckpedia, Laferriere is RFA (will get a raise), but coming off the books are UFAs include Gavrikov, Kuzmenko and Jeannott. Additionally, none of their players already signed into next season have their cap hits going up, and just under $4m is coming off the books from Provorov retention and Bonus Carryover Overage.

That's about $15 million to give Laferriere a raise, sign a top 9 winger to replace Kuzmenko, and replace Gavrikov.

The OP's notes for LA upgrades Spence, so there's no longer a need to replace Gavrikov... just need to sign a 3rd pair RHD. Almost $5m cap space is gone though now. Another $2m lost in the OP trade to bring in Quinn Hughes. Still a very reasonable amount left to sign a top 9 RW, extend Laferriere and bring in a 3rd pair RHD. The math seems to check out.

Also the cap is going up a bit, so that's even more space.

No. Both teams aren't doing it. Come back to Vancouver in a year and see how Hughes feels about his future. Close it down.

An elite 3rd line center is still just a bad 2nd line center lol.

Another question to me is if Hughes does request a move, any slither of hope for Vancouver to retool without some form of teardown will be very difficult.

With that being said, and seeing that Rutherford was alive when dinosaurs existed, wlll Rutherford even have an appetite to continue with this organization?

Horrendous for Vancouver but a nice morning laugh from Kings fans saying no
almost as funny as vancouver fans thinking theyre contenders for one fluke season. or even funnier when he leaves in 2 years or is traded next year cause he wont resign.
