If I'm getting this correct, you're saying Rakell & Karlsson for Byfield & Clarke and the Kings should be the ones saying 'yes'? I mean even your characterization of Clarke as (only) "the 7th d-man" is just .... wow.

Byfield is the exact type of player the Habs would be looking for. Problem is i have no idea on what to offer. I do know it could start with our two -1st rd picks and then what else would we need to add?

Well the reports out today say Rantanen wouldn’t sign in LA so I don’t see that happening. Also if LA was to deal its only good young center for a winger would be idiotic.

Many others have already stated the obvious, but Byfield isn't available.
He's the best center on the Kings right now and he's 22 years old. 12 points in his last 11 games. By comparison Kopitar has just 5 points in his last 11 games. Kings would be unbelievably stupid to trade him. If they're trading Byfield they may as well trade Clarke, Greentree, and their next 2 first round picks and just go all in for the next 2 years and rebuild if they don't win a cup. But again, I think most of us would agree that would be incredibly stupid.
The thing with Byfield is he's still VERY raw as a player. I know his career so far has been underwhelming and the points aren't where you'd want them to be. But he still has an immense amount of potential. This is the kind of player that "pops" as a 23/24 year old and all of the sudden they're a top 25 player in the NHL. He's shown flashes of ELITE, elite skill and he skates faster than like 98% of the league. And he's 6'5. He's also very responsible in his own end especially for a 22 year old center. His shot is also getting better.
Will he ever live up to that potential?? That's what makes him such a polarizing player. Some insist the answer is 'no' - and those are the people who think it's best to trade him now while he still has value. Personally, I believe he'll end up putting it all together and will end up being WELL worth the wait. But at this point, we just really don't know how it's going to play out. There's certainly risk in keeping him because what if he never does reach that next level / live up to his potential. But it would be a LOT riskier to bet against him and potentially trade away a 6'5 1C who can put up 80+ points a season and dominate 200ft of ice consistently (a level I believe Byfield can definitely get to).

Can’t remember who it was but was posted on X by a few different accounts. Anyways I would hate to see what Blake would give up in a trade for him.

Clarke was never once mentioned in my post, so I don't know where you are getting that from.
You should do everything in your power to keep clarke.
I did however mention Spence, who has not been an everyday player, even when healthy, and who will probably lose his spot to full time to Clarke in the near future. In this hypothetical situation that includes getting karlsson Spence seems most likely be someone who could be available given that, again in this hypothetical situation, that karlssson and Clarke would then both be pushing Spence out of the lineup.

I mean it without a doubt would be an improvement for this season…
After that though… certainly not worth the risk

I finally watched him closely and I gotta say, he’s improved a lot. He’s doing all the little thingscorrectly. I was wrong about him. He’s gonna be good.

Out of a deal like this, the Kings biggest need would be Byfield. His potential was 1C, after watching how he’s continued to improve at C position this season, he definitely is a 1C. I don’t see Blake even considering an over pay for him.
