Maddie Elia was on a mission in the first period today, scoring twice just minutes apart to stake the Beauts to a 2-goal lead after 20 minutes in their season opener against the Connecticut Whale. Hayley Scamurra added a pair of third-period tallies (including a beaut of an individual effort) to make the final score 4-0 to Buffalo. Nicole Hensley was solid in the crease, stopping all ten shots she faced.
Meanwhile, in MSP - the Minnesota Whitecaps made quite the statement with their first two games as members of the National Women's Hockey League: "Hello - and watch out for us!" Old friend Amanda Leveille stopped 40 of 41 Metropolitan shots on goal to backstop the 'Caps to 4-0 & 3-1 wins last night and tonight, respectively. Both games were played in front of sold-out crowds at TRIA Rink (seating 1,200 fans).
