OT: PWHL: Ottawa Charge

Montreal squanders their own extended 5 on 3 powerplay and we are headed to double overtime

I started watching from double OT onward. No shortage of chances. This might go a while.

1) The Charge outplayed the Victoire for the bulk of the 3 OT periods. And it is unfortunate that a crazy bounce led to a loss.

2) in 2 seasons, the level of play in the PWHL has improved dramatically. The area that has had the biggest improvement is skating. Early in the 23/24 season, many of the players skated with a figure skaters motion. Today, legs are wide apart, the stride is more forceful. In watching, it is becoming less and less obvious that these are females playing. At this rate, the PWHL will be on par with a junior A team in another season or two.

3) Danielle Serdachny is an outstanding player. She may be the heir apparent to Marie-Philip Poulin. The assumption the last 2 years was, Sarah Fillier (playing with NY Sirens) was the heir apparent. But in watching Serdachny, she may be the better player. Serdachny is 5'-9", to Fillier's 5'-4". Given how much more physical the game is today, Serdachny will have a huge advantage.

4) J. Larocque played over 56 minutes. They will kill her if her ice time does not come down. She logged ~ 22 minutes in game 1. And she is 36 years old.

5) Pack the TD arena folks. You will love what you see. Yesterday's game was 5 hours of must see hockey.

Toronto's bad day continues as they are eliminated by Minnesota, who are now waiting on us or Montreal.

Serdachny is on the 4th line, and for good reason. Maybe she puts it together, but I don't see someone whos going to be a top player in the league. Fillier is the new number 1 imo, but I don't think the women's game really has a generational talent right now. MPP is the closest, but even she didn't really dominate the competition like you'd expect from a generational talent during her prime.

Your appraisal is a lot more generous than mine.

If the Renfrew Wolves played a PWHL All-Star team I'd bet on the Renfrew Wolves

To say a women's team will be on par with a male team implies that they can beat said team.
