to Buffalo Sabres
- Pulock (RD 5 yrs)
- Pageau (RC 1 yr)
- Engvall (LW/RW 5 yrs)

(retain on Pageau MAYBE if needed)

to New York Islanders
- Samuelsson (LD 5 yrs)
- Quinn (RW - RFA)
- Krebs (C/W 1 yr then RFA)

NOTE: this is a Value Of thread, not a Proposal thread. One team is adding to this. These are just the roster pieces.

These are the 6 NHL roster players / contracts that would be swapping between BUF and NYI. Which team is adding here, and much do they need to add to make this a fair trade?

Lou dislikes retaining, but it may or may not be too much cap for Buffalo to agree to take without it. A maximum of $2.5m cap hit (and maybe less, or none) retention for only one year isn't too bad in a trade where you rid yourself of the Engvall contract.

Last paragraph can hardly read in dark mode.

Pulock for sammy and one of the two you mentioned....maybe.. Keep Engvall and pageau. Ik they are there for salary purposes but the sabres have no space cap room moving forward and have zero need for forwards outside of a 1c.

Has Samuelsson played anything remotely close a full season yet? The Isles already have Adam Pelech as an injury prone LD. Adding another with that term isn’t really smart.

Going to have to add a sweetener for someone to take Engvall, until 2030.
Normally when there's a player who gets "you need to pay to get rid of him" it is often a useful player who is just overpaid. In this case, Engvall is arguably the worst contract under $7m in the NHL and adds very little to most teams and any team taking him on should not be doing so for free.

From Buffalo's standpoint I'd be happy to have Pulock. Pageau would have made a lot more sense before acquiring McLeod, but I wouldn't necessarily reject getting another good defensively responsible vet on a one year deal if we could make the cap work. That Engvall deal is going to be a complete no go for most of the league though. I'd imagine there'd have to be some retention on that deal along with some additional assets. Right now I doubt Buffalo is looking to add dead weight like that.

Clearly the Sabres need to add guys like Pulock and Pageau. Maybe keep Engvall out of the deal and the return could touch the Sabres’ core?

Average age 24 at about $8-9 million for average age 30 at $14 million. Doesn’t seem like the kinda thing that happens.

Not saying Buffalo should make this trade, but they've tried the "just wait for the young guys to take the reigns" thing. If moving younger guys for vets to change outlook of the team is what it takes, they need to do it.

No matter what the value is, Pulock is not waiving his NTC to go to Buffalo. Period. Just tryna be realistic
Even if he was, adding in Samuelsson who hasn’t touched a full NHL season once in his career isn’t even remotely of interest. Do you want 2 of Adam Pelech on the roster out for 20-35 games a season? This year went real well with the blueline all out for an extended time due to injury.

Yea don’t know about the value, but I think Buffalo would be wise adding veteran leadership like Pulock and Pageau to the mix. They have a ton of talent, now they need some vets that know what it takes to make the playoffs and make a run.
