Imagine we had been more proactive and dealt Broberg or Holloway for Askarov, at least you'd have gotten a big piece back.
I'm having trouble coming to terms as well. This offseason was trash. Teams doing great and I'm still angry. We had cap space and 2 good trade assets to trade to fix these holes and we came out of it with skinner and arvy and mid picks.

Not a great start by the boys, but well deserving of the win. Should be a fun one tomorrow against the Sens, who are playing really well.
Another opportunity to get goalied, just got to cash more of those slick McD setups. Nuge missed a couple and Hyman at least one.

And yet most folks were claiming JJ did a marvellous job. Hmmm, all revisionist history now I guess lol.

That pass by Perry at the end there though… I don’t think any of our other wingers besides Kapanen and maybe Podkolzin makes that play.
Said it when we got him and I’ll say it again now. He brings Top 6 poise to our bottom 6. Too many are focused on his lack of speed and don’t give him enough credit for his ability to hold onto pucks and find the right play.

To be fair, I think the majority of people thought Holloway/Broberg would be on the team as well.

Pretty much been a disaster for JJ though

Bets on Arviddson, Skinner and Henrique haven’t paid off to date. Thats 10m doing basically nothing.

To stand up for JJ somewhat, theres no way our forwards should be as unproductive as they are. Will be interesting if he actually tries something at the deadline or if he just runs with the forward core.

I dunno, I still think Arvidsson will pay dividends. The other 2 are wasted cap. Wish he would have matched on Holloway, said as much at the time.

Hasn't won a puck battle in two weeks.
Hasn't even been in the battle lol. He pirouettes away from contact. Every time he looks like a figure skater, he's near the boards

JSkinner will end up costing a Broberg/Holloway compensation pick to ditch, resulting in a overall transaction of Holloway and JSkinner for nothing, because Oilers. It's guaranteed to happen.

Man what the f*** was she posting after we won game 6 last year?

She’s gotta be on some sort of suicide watch if we win it all.
I’d love to go back and see.

Edit: nope. The last thread is from October of this year. Seems like they delete a lot of threads to keep on lower storage usage. I dunno, something poor

Just finished watching the game.

Askarov reminds me of Cujo.

Nashville will have decades of nightmares reveilling them to visions of this trade. This off-season in general - getting rid of Askarov and backing up brinks trucks for over the hill has-beens. Trotz might be the worst gm I've ever seen - that off-season makes a guy like Mike Millbury look HHoF worthy.

That’s who Jeff Skinner is though. A scorer whose offensive skills are supposed to make up for his softness/defensive inefficiencies. If the Oilers were expecting anything different I don’t know why we even brought him in. He’s not going to change his game or work his way up from the fourth line. Krueger tried that already. If he isn’t playing in a scoring role he is probably better off in the press box.
Came here to post almost exactly this. Good post.

As awful as Skinner has been in the last few games, I think the coach needs to own his share of the blame.

The Oilers signed a 30+ player knowing full well what he is, yet the coach treats him like some rookie that needs to be taught responsible hockey or something. He is not that player and we don't have that time. You're just neutering him at this point, tanking his confidence.

Like you said, Buffalo put him on the 4th line and it didn't help. Back in the top six he started producing again for them, at least for a time.

If we want value for this player that we couldn't get rid of even if we wanted to, we need to give him more than three shifts on a good line when he has a good stretch. Instead Knoblauch punishes him with 4th-line minutes for several games after those few shifts.

I love Knob but this is Eakins level stuff in my opinion.

The Oilers clearly deserved the 2 points and got it (in exciting but ugly fashion), but they did not need to make it so hard on themselves (and wear out McDrai before tomorrow's game) if they'd shown up for the 1st period.

I don't know what it is with this team, but they just don't show up at the start of anything. Start of season? Suck. Start of games against weaker opponents? Suck. Start of Cup Final series? Suck. It's like they can't get going until they've almost lost or have been eliminated.

By the way, awesome shot by Ekholm in the dying seconds. Missile off the pipe and in. (If it had been Bouchard, he probably would have passed...)

At least Ottawa played late and is on the road.

Agreed with all.

Also feels the odd time that they start well, they often take their foot off the gas until the game gets tied again.

Long story short. The Oilers look to do everything as hard as possible.

If it wasn't for McDrai, this would have been a 2-0 snoozefest for San Jose. Our depth has gotten worse, not better. Wrong mix of players. Arvidsson and Skinner do not fit this team at all. Trying to fit a square peg into a round hole is about as dumb as it gets. Bowman should get off his axxx and look for some trading partners to offload both. We will need that cap space in March to acquire proper pieces for a run.

So the sharks dumped Blackwood to the Avs for kovalenko and georgiev....what a steal. Then some unknown askarov comes out of the woodwork.

What if we actually traded ceci, plus a 2nd and Pickard for emberson and askarov in the summer?

The sharks are rebuilding much faster than any other tankathon teams in the league.

Montreal
Buffalo
Chicago
Senators
Columbus
Canucks rebuilding forever since 1970.

A team with Celebrini and a random group of yahoos look like they could make the playoffs within 2 years.

I wish someone could figure out why this team simply cannot start on time. It cost them a cup last year probably. We would have had home ice
We started in time to get the 2 points the last 2 games.

Saw the game on replay. That was total domination especially the last two periods, like men vs. boys.
I know people are saying that the Sharks are improving and giving them a lot of props but man that organization has a long way to go to be relevant. Some nice building blocks, Cellebrini and Askarov are very good stars even, but it's going to take a long while to come together if yesterday is any indication. The Oilers are very good and tend to do that to even the best teams at times but that Sharks team has a lot of holes still.

Not surprisingly, the Nurse-Bouchard experiment didn't last.

I swear Nurse isn't even better this year. He just doesn't do well with poor skaters like Barrie, Ceci and Bouchard. Get Nurse a real top 4 D that can skate and shoots right. Maybe that would take over as top pair.
