I'm a NJ fan and am also new to this part of the boards (my God there's a lot going on). Anyway, I understand that Puljujarvi has been struggling and was wondering what his value is. I think that it could be a good idea to take a flyer on him, as obviously scouts saw something in him. So what would you want in return?

There's no need to jettison a struggling 20 year old just because he was drafted 4th overall. While it's looking less likely he will ever live up to his draft position, there's still a useful player there with some patience and development. Get him down to the farm where the Condors have won 13-14 straight and there is a group of young players doing good things. It could be a blessing in disguise for the Oilers as another high draft pick, putting up numbers on his elc would of been crushing for an already tight cap structure.

I want to keep Jesse. The times where he does look like a 4th overall pick, he dominates the ice. Size, speed and a wicked wrist shot is a rare combination that teams covet

But if he really needed to be dealt, I'm looking at Dallas' Jason Robertson. Probably their best prospect, which would drive Star's fans nuts to deal him. But that's the ask, it's a high ask, so it's just not worth trading him right now. Value is too low, and at 20 yrs old, might as well take the gamble and seen how he'll do with whatever coach Edmonton hires next season, hopefully a modern one that will actually give him a chance, and not stick him on the 4th line with plugs, playing less than 8 minutes a night and setting him up for failure

He is too close to bust at this point
could still turn it around, and you have 4OA tools, that's it

Nominal return 1:1
nice sweetener in a larger package

20 years old and a bust HAHA
How long did Rags fans hold out for Dylan McIlrath to become a the huge RH shutdown D????
I'd rather watch Puljujarvi skip back to Finland than sell him for peanuts.
Again, he's twenty years old ffs

Edmonton will (should) want something of equal value in terms of his potential. Other teams likely won't (shouldn't) want to give up something of equal value given Jesse's struggles, pending waiver eligibility, and situation.

I think it means EDM holds onto him unless they get to a point where they have no choice.

Ideally he goes to the Canes.
Aho understands his „Finnish“ and could translate for Teravainen and the others.
Canes have no pressure and a young team.

But I doubt the Oilers give up on him yet.
Still some potential to ruin and in two more years he is a total bust.

Pavel Zacha +

Zacha could be a perfect shutdown #3c behind Connor and Leon/Nuge.

Yep.

Only deals I could see him moving for is a similarly aged young forward prospect that hasn’t broken through in a significant way (Zacha, Jost, Eriksson Ek, Senyshyn/McLeod/Nylander with a big +, Thompson, Jones) or a 24-25 year old forward that’s seen more success but have lower potential (Lekhonen, Bratt, Jenner, etc)

Somewhat unlikely to happen but there’s literally zero point to the Oilers in taking a much lower potential prospect and 3rd rounders.

You're setting yourself up for disappointment if you think Puljujarvi will return Zacha/Jost/etc + 1st type of deal.

Sorry, the players I thought there needed to be a significant + with were McLeod, Senyshyn, and Nylander only. Not the others. Jost/Ek straight up is reasonable. Not sure about Zacha, I think we’d have to add something.

I don't think an Eriksson-Ek/Puljujarvi swap would be totally out of the question. The obvious problem is that the Wild need centers more than wingers, and with Ek playing better lately it makes a sense to keep him.

That said, our centers next year are Koivu coming off an ACL injury, Coyle if he's still around, Eriksson-Ek and Rask. That's a mess regardless of whether or not Ek is in the mix, so how important it is to keep him really depends on what the heck Fenton decides to do for top-6 centers next year and beyond.

Ah makes sense, I missed the formatting.

Those players make sense, I do think Zacha is a serviceable player and has the highest floor. IMO he still has potential as well, he'd be lighting up the AHL if he was down there.

Off topic but what are Kaprizov chances coming to play for Minne? Maybe Pulju for Kaprizov's rights could work

This is probably about right.

Honestly, I have a soft spot for the Oilers and watch them quite a bit. I don't see any reason why the Oilers would get rid of Puljujarvi now.

As a Devils fan, I wouldn't be adding to Pavel (or even trading him for that matter) for Puljujarvi like some have suggested. While Zacha certainly has had his struggles this season, 8 of his 17 points have come in his last 15 games. His floor is essentially a defensively minded 3C, because that's pretty much what he already is. We're just hoping (praying) that he continues to develop his offense, because he shows flashes of brilliance.

You never know until it happens, but they seem high. He doesn't have much left to prove in the KHL and he's said over and over that he intends to make the jump once his current contract is done. I'd assume that him coming over in 2020 will be a significant factor in whatever plans Fenton comes up with for the next 3 years.

I don't think it makes much sense to trade his rights.
