Puck Drop Preview: 2014-15 New Jersey Devils

That blurb about Elias on the decline was pretty silly.

The 38-year-old posted an 18-35-53 statline in 65 games last year, solid numbers, but also his worst offensive campaign since way back in 1998-99 (not including lockout or injury-shortened seasons).

Seems like some great cherry picking. So missing a quarter of the year doesn't count as an injury-shortened season? 53 points in 65 games in 2014 is worse than 55 points in 74 games in 2008? .815 PPG in 2014 is worse than .765 PPG in 2011? 58 games is thrown out as an injury season but 65 games isn't?

Elias may very well slow down soon but the way it was presented was incredibly misleading. He had an excellent season last year.

Brodeur was "boo boo faced" eh? Is that what the kids are calling it, these days? I mean, the general spirit of that section isn't wrong

I agree, that part is clearly fishing for a storyline

I thought the Clowe piece was even more bizarre...Not one mention of concussions or injury...The piece made it sound like he is just a bad hockey player...The piece says he was good in San Jose hitting 50 points for three consecutive season then implies he is bad in New Jersey scoring 26 points in 43 (Hey dumbass that's a 50 point season)

For years, Clowe was a solid power forward in San Jose, hitting 50 points for three consecutive seasons between 2009-2011. That was the player the Devils thought they signed last summer, not the player he has unfortunately become. The lockout-shortened 2013 probably should have been a clue, as he managed only 3 goals in 40 games split between the Sharks and the Rangers, yet it was somehow enough to garner Clowe a 5-year contract with an AAV of $4.85 million from New Jersey.
People didn’t think he could live up to that contract, and so far they are right. He managed to suit up for only 43 games with the Devils, and only netted 7 goals and 26 points. The 31-year-old Clowe still has time to turn things around, but after three seasons of less than stellar offensive numbers, it’s pretty apparent that he’s in decline and will have to put in a great effort this season if he hopes to be worth the value of his contract.

Jim, I can translate that to :

"Oh. It's just New Jersey. EWW!"

The End.

I mean players are always downplayed whenever they DARE to go play for this franchise. (See Kovalsuck for example).

Though I do find it strange that they completely disregard the concussion issues as if they don't do any research before they print these articles. Imagine that, huh?

By research do you mean looking at the stats page on HockeyDB? That seems to be where most of the research on that article came from.
