There’s been a lot of speculation around Dobson for Peterson but I never saw that fit. With the Sabres desperately needing a RHD, would something like Byram + Peterka for Dobson or Power + for Dobson work?

No. Ignoring value, that solves absolutely nothing for the Sabres blue line. The problem isn’t that our 3 best defensemen all shoot left; it’s that they’re all essentially the same type of player. Dobson isn’t any different from what we already have.

They do not want a one dimension off only Dman who wants a high contract

The other part of it is sabres cap structure having too much long term in D/G

Hexalone doesnt get Peterson. He doesn't have significantly more value than power or byram.

And it should be noted that the jury is very much out on the winner of that trade. McLeod started hot but cooled off. Savoie started cold but has 10 points in his last 4 AHL games.

I dont think that should be noted.

The Sabres shouldn’t be trying to “win” trades. They need players the serve specific roles on the NHL roster that will help them win. It’s okay if the prospect turns out to be good and people on forums wants to say they lost a trade.

If I were Buffalo, I’d be patient with Cozens and hang on to Byram. He’ll get a smaller contract than Power, and Power will hold higher value in a trade, due to size and draft pedigree (and absence of injury history). Byram fits well in Buffalo and has Cup experience even though he’s young. He’s been in the room and seen what it takes.

Looking at the roster, not that I’d be giving up on them in any fashion, but one or both of Quinn/Benson can go as well. They should hold good value but Peterka is clearly the keeper out of that group of young forwards. They’ll have to make another similar decision out of Ostlund, Helenius, Wahlberg, Kulich down the road. Can’t keep them all.

I would look to package (or two packages) Power, Quinn/Benson and surplus prospects like Rosen/Ostlund and target a 2C and RHD. Ideally two RHD, but one of significance for sure.

Peterka - Thompson - Tuch
Zucker - 2C - Cozens
Greenway - McLeod - Quinn
Malenstyn - Krebs - Lafferty
Dahlin - RHD
Byram - Samuelsson/RHD 2
Samuelsson - Clifton
UPL
Levi

Zucker and Greenway get moved at the deadline. Opens spots for guys like Kulich and also, would definitely consider moving an additional prospect or two, as well as picks, for a solid middle six wing or two under contract.

I don’t think the Sabres are nearly as far from being good as they seem. At this stage, they are too young and guys like Benson, Quinn, Peterka are too same-y. They need to get slightly older/more experienced while diversifying the type of players in their top-nine forward group. Shit, I’d even consider trying to re-sign Greenway and find another solid third liner with some bite to play on McLeod’s other wing. I think the Sabres, despite the long drought looking like it will continue, are actually nearly there. Rather than Byram and Cozens, it’s Power, Quinn and maybe Benson (along with making some choices on which prospects to keep/move) that I would move and who I believe have plenty of value to address several of the Sabres needs.

The point was the one time you DID break open the piggy bank it wasn’t exactly a home run.

If you’re going to be giving up high end prospects, especially potentially several of them to get the pieces you need, losing trades isn’t going to help you. I like McLeod, always have, but he’s not necessarily that “helps you win” guy.

I would think some 28+ players is exactly what the Sabres need right now. Team is full of youth players
Pretty much this. 28 is an arbitrary number. I mean, Leon Draisaitl is 29 and signed long term.

If a player is 35 I get it but more prime aged players is what the Sabres need.

Going fioward... dont want to post this in every trade proposal thread

Stop posting trades for either Byrun, Cozens, Tuch, or others for future picks and/or prospects.

Only ones I see picks/ prospect trades for are the pending UFAs jokiharju, Greenway, and Zucker

If buffalo trades and others from their main roster - they are hockey trades. They would be looking for 1/2C, pure 1/2 RD ( none if this left playing right)

Buffalo is not taking 28+ players on long contracts (5+ full yrs)

Tuch -' he was the main piece coming back for Eichel. He was born and raised in western ny and grew up a Sabres fan. If buffalo was going to trade him it would be for a high profile player ( petersson, mcdavid) . If They trade him for futures the PR damage would be huge.

There would have to be a falling out next season where they cant sign Tuch facing UFA and the deadline. I expect him signed in the summer.

Buffalo gas a loaded prosprct pool currently. In a few years they may have to decide on who to keep and who to trsde from this prospect pool from 20-24 drafts . At that point is when they might entertain getting futures to restock orispects

Do you understand how ridiculous what you said about Tuch is?

I don't care if he was the main piece for Eichel or not, you live in some sort of Marvel, alternate timeline reality if you believe Alex Tuch even gets a conversation about Mcdavid started

You could clone Alex Tuch 23 times, one for every position on the team that doesn't get you Mcdavid.

It's time to return to the main timeline

I like this.

Next can we create a section of this site solely to keep us all updated of the going ons of the Vancouver Canucks?
We need more Vancouver Canuck posts. Hopefully the multiple posts about the soon to be traded players that started going on a month ago gets updated soon.

See what happens..

I think there was something behind the scenes we dont know about yet.

We probably wont see a trade with Tuch, Power, Byram or Cozens until the offseason but I do think its possible since there is a lot of talking coming out from Buffalo and other teams.

LOL! Please do not dictate to use what we can and can not do. As an oiler fan I would like to remind you that when we were sucking, we were getting offered bad contracts, bad prospects and bad draft picks to Leon and Mcdavid--as a few did come from Sabres fans.

You have the option to ignore such threads--all because you do not like the trades does not mean all trades are bad
