Watched the highlights and man did our passing look impressive. I am getting giddy about this season.

I try not to get to high/low about preseason, but before the game I was a little "concerned" about the fact that we didn't score the first game vs. Pitt and got beat handidly by ST. L & Minn in 2 of our other games, but I'm all giddy after this performance.

Pens observations

Flipped back & forth with the OSU game but wanted to share some observations;

1. Yea, the Pens announcers were nails on a chalkboard. They could be worse if they had Rimmer.
2. The fact that this line-up was mostly NHL regulars and the game had a regular/post season feel seemed very positive. This group seems ready to stomp on the gas on October 9th.
3. I know its early, but Wennberg looks like he will avoid the sophomore slump. Maybe the first 40 games of last year will pay off this year.
4. That CBJ owned first period shots 14-1 and was 18-1 when the major penalty ended was impressive. We just need to tap the brakes a bit - its still pre-season.
5. Does anybody else here get the feeling there are too many eggs in the Crosby/Kessel basket? One injury/flu bug/measles/accident and that team seems like they could be very thin. Trick pony = 1.
6. I get the feeling Bob will go long stretches with solid play/good health this year. What I have seen/heard/read just sounds positive - (again, tapping brakes)
7. Is anybody concerned that the CBJ was built exclusively for a 60 minute game and will not be able to keep up 3-on-3? Big and hulking is fine at even strength and on special teams - just wondering if we could match a fast/skilled line in extra time.
8. Speaking of 3-on-3 does anybody know if there will be a segregation of goalie stats for the 3-3 OT? If not, I could see overall GAA go down this year.

When it comes to keeping up in 3 on 3 I think we'll be fine. We have extremely mobile defensemen in Murray and Johnson combined with plenty of speed in Cam, Johansen, Saad, Wennberg, Foligno and Calvert.

Hell, we were one Kevlar sock away from Jared Boll being the most hated man in Pittsburgh yesterday.

Not anymore than any other year. I think their offense is very talented and deep. Their defense might be more worrisome if Kris Letang goes down.

Forgot to mention that I was very impressed with William Karlsson last night too. I think he goes to Cleveland but he could very well make it over Rychel.

Yeah, they're a injury away from 2012 Oiler territory on the Defense & considering they're top 2, Letang and Maata, both had significant time missed last year, does not bode well for them.

I agree that William Karlsson looked good out there, even though he was skating with Boll and Gallant. I don't know if it's just me, but he looks a little bigger and more physical out there. Seen him blocking pucks, winning some faceoffs, and driving to the net.

I bought a game issued jersey of his, so I wouldn't mind seeing him develop. One of my hobbies is buying game worn/game issued jersey's of undervalued prospects that I think can be a solid player since they are about the same cost as an authentic jersey and go for cheap.

I didn't follow the home Pens game, but in the Wild game, we only played 1 top 9 forward (Dubi) plus Clarkson and Campbell. Clarkson got booted from the game 66 seconds into the game. I think we also only played only 2 of our top 6 dmen.

The game at St. Louis was split squad where we sent mostly tryout/prospects there, including our #4 and #5 goaltenders. There's nothing at all to be concerned over those games.

The only thing the first 4/5 preseason games provide are opportunity to see some prospects try to impress coaches and maybe a potential regular season line or pairing skate together.

My DVR was kind enough to record the @pens game with mostly veterans. I watched the first two periods today. I too am "giddy".
