Judging by the roster I wonder if it's Lohrei vs Forbort for the final spot on D and Brown vs Beecher for final spot for 4C

I see the possibility of Shattenkirk and Zboril being waived. Either him or Zboril. Lohrei and Mitchell make the team.

I see opening night like this:

Lohrei-McAvoy
Lindholm-Carlo
Forbort-Gryz/Mitchell

Are JVR and Shattenkirk in danger? This is supposed to be a dress rehearsal. I don't think Ulmark or Lucic are in danger? But Shattenkirk and JVR seem to be on the outside looking in unless there is an injury.

I don't think so. This team is incredibly light on top 6 talent. JVR may be past his best but he's been a genuine top 6 player for a long time. They can't afford to let him go. If he's not filling a first or second line winger spot alongside Pasta, DeBrusk and Marchand, then who is? Shattenkirk wasn't very good in his preseason outings but had the look of a guy just easing into things and simply getting his legs moving. Whatever people may think of him, he's been a legit NHLer for a long time who's not yet that old. He's got nothing to prove at this point. I can foresee a very slim possibility that the Bruins have had a change of heart about him, at least partly because of the flourishing of Lohrei and Mitchell, but that would require Sweeney to admit he made a mistake, which would be kind of embarrassing and a bit disrespectful to Shattenkirk. So I doubt it.

I get what you're saying - this game was cited as being a full dress rehearsal. But I get the impression that plan may have changed, for whatever reason. Maybe because they now want one last look at the young guys before they make a final decision on them. Either way, I don't think this list is the final one after all.

Good to see Steen hanging around.

Where is Heinen?

Brown and Shatten may not make this team...I keep Mitchell over Shat.

Can't see JVR getting waived. He looked pretty good and had a great finish in the last game. We are thin on LW too.

Shattenkirk should be waived.

Montgomery says that he wants to build the "team game" and that it isn't where it needs to be, yet he leaves critical players (JVR, Lucic, Lindholm) out of the final tuneup game which should be the full dress rehearsal to futher evaluate a bunch of JAGS. Sorry, but we know exactly who Boqvist, Greer, Brown and Forbort (who I like) are as players. There is nothing an exhibition game will tell us about their play.

The result is that we are playing at least two forward lines and two defensive pairs that will not be the starting formation. And, without JVR and Lindholm, the powerplays will be off. This is all pretty dumb.

No. Shatty is your 6/7th D man and JVR can still play on the 2nd or 3rd line.

JVR looked solid on Tuesday night. I'd like to see Shattenkirk with a more complimentary partner

I know people don't want Brown on the roster, but I won't be shocked to see him make the final roster. Of the new guys they brought in this year via FA, Brown and Geekie are the only guys that got multi year deals. Brown can play C/RW is good in the dot and plays a heavy game. He's basically what they want for a 4th line/13th forward type of player.

Maybe Monty is trying to provide some continuity and pick up where he left off last season.
Or maybe he's giving certain guys one last look before final roster cuts are made. This is another test for Beecher, Lohrei and Poitras as this is in NYC on prime time tv against another O6 team. It is a completely different atmosphere and only having one rest day after playing back to back will help them evaluate whether they can handle playing at the top of their game on short rest.

Just sit back and enjoy watching the game no matter the outcome.

I think the exception on that list might be Boqvist, scored 10+ goals a few seasons in a row in NHL with limited ice time, still young, and had high offensive #s prior in other leagues ...I think they are really hoping they found offensive diamond in the rough on the cheap but hasn't looked like it so far that's for sure.

I get the feeling this is a last look for a few guys and that unfortunately JVR and Shattenkirk are quite safe. It is a rebuilding year, objectives and timetables will be different than they have been since Chiarelli's first or second year.
