Kakko is a superstar in the making. When he has his full man strength he is going to be impossible to stop. He already looks formidable in the corners. He was absolutely dominant on that right half wall on the PP. Elite, elite puck handling skills and hand eye coordination. One thing I’d like to see hin work on is his first step. If he improved his burst just a little, it could be the difference between franchise winger and perennial Hart contender.
Fox looked impressive. His poise with the puck was refreshing, and his instincts when pinching already look elite. He’s nifty with his stick in general, chopping the puck into favorable positions. His skating didn’t look worrisome at all, he looked smooth out ther really.
Kravtsov didn’t have a great game but you can see that he has high, high end upside. He looked like a Datsyuk clone on that breakaway chance, and his balance is an underrated aspect of his game. He’s strong on the puck, and will hopefully only get stronger. His hands are right up there with Kakko and Panarin.
Trouba had some good and bad. He looked decent defensively, made a couple of questionable reads. However, he was like a turret from the point, and his shot looked dangerous. Definitely looks better offensively than I thought he would, but getting to play on a PP with Kakko, Panarin, and Mika will do that.
Andersson had an active game. He still reminds me of Drury a lottttttt. Dangerous around the net, sneaky good hands, needs other talented players to really bring the best out of him offensively. He’s not a catalyst in the offensive zone, he’s the garbage man. And that’s a good fit at center with the types of wingers we have. He could be a handful in front of the net on the PP.
Hajek was unremarkable in the best way possible. Looks as good as he did in his stint last year, which was very good.
Greg McKegg definitely looked like an NHL caliber player out there. He was better than Nieves, and could absolutely take his spot. Loved his hustle. Think Elmer looked decent as well, he might have somewhat of an NHL future ahead of him. Probably like a 150-200 game guy at best, but still, not bad for free.
Georgiev faced a couple good chances and gave up goals on most of them. Shestyorkin was impressive overall. He’s a little more raw than I expected, which is honestly kind of encouraging. Allaire can begin to mold him from scratch almost. His physical tools are clearly superior, his strides in net are absolutely effortless. You could definitely see the upside. He has some fundamental things to work on (rebounds) but I expect those to get better as time goes on. He looked very good for a young goalie in his first real NA action.
