In Trotz We Trust?
Will be interesting to see if we sign Fink if his season ends this week.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord ServerMinnesota ended up losing 5-4 in OT so their season's over now. Wood with one assist in the game.Wood and Minnesota playing O’Hara and UMass now. Game is in espn2 and espn+. Started over hour late bc early game went to 2ot, so should be still going for at least an hour after Preds game ends. Scoreless in 1st now.
In a perfect world, you'd be signing your #15 OA 1st round pick junior NCAA player today, and you'd have him in your lineup tomorrow. You don't see those guys going back to play their senior years very often.Minnesota ended up losing 5-4 in OT so their season's over now. Wood with one assist in the game.

Soooo. Where does that leave us with Wood? It's a bit of a tossup, because we obviously wish he had dominated NCAA in his 3rd season, which he did not. What does a 4th NCAA season do for him? Vs. transitioning to the pros. I have no idea. Maybe it comes down to what he himself prefers wrt his schooling etc. But it's going to be something on the discussion radar for us as fans.
I can see that. There will be a competing argument that since he hasn't really dominated the level he's at and still needs to work on lower-body strength and balance, the best way to do that is by staying in the NCAA and using those great facilities with less game/travel time to work on that side of things.I'd like him to get to Milwaukee at this point. I think it's going to be a long road, but he needs to start playing against faster players to understand how much more he needs to grow.
Wood's rights would expire August 15, 2026. Then he would become a UFA free to sign with anybody.Wood would be able to become a free agent after next season if he went back to college, right? It's a bit strange since he had already played a year of college when we drafted him, but if I'm reading it right he should hit free agency once his college class graduates even though it would only three years since we drafted him. f that's the case then I'd be trying to sign him just to avoid that eventuality. I can't imagine that someone like Wood would be looking at our organization and think that it's a great place for a player of his playstyle to develop.
Yeah, we got to keep his rights due to the Covid exception. So despite he played 5 NCAA years, he's still an option for us.Also, I was looking through the NCAA scoring leaders and noticed Gunnarwolf put up a very soild point per game season. He's 24 years old so I have no illusions he makes much noise at the NHL level but he might be an interesting player to try and bring into Milwaukee too.
Agreed. I guess in his situation I kinda look at it like, so far NCAA hasn't done much for his skating so maybe a more professional environment could benefit him.I can see that. Again, I have no actual opinion which route is going to be better for Wood. But that pick is just such a huge investment for us, I think it requires some discussion. In the "perfect world", the switch to the bigger program surrounded by more talent was going to result in a 50+ point season and Hobey Baker nomination for Wood this year. That's really what you would expect out of a #15 OA pick in this situation. It didn't happen. Where we go from here to try to salvage this investment...![]()
Plus he gets to start living/training/eating/practicing like a professional hockey player - I'm assuming the AHL support system will be more robust than what he's getting in college.I say sign Wood as fast as you can and get him to Milwaukee.
He's already played three years in the NCAA and while he didn't light the league on fire this year, I think he made progress and doesn't just have anything more to gain from spending another year there.
You would be surprised. The facilities (generally not arenas but everything else), support staff, travel environment, etc may even exceed AHL levels at the top hockey schools, though certainly not throughout the NCAA.Plus he gets to start living/training/eating/practicing like a professional hockey player - I'm assuming the AHL support system will be more robust than what he's getting in college.
Well Snuggerud, Rinzel, and Moore just signed. I don’t know what the holdup would be with Wood if he was going to.You would be surprised. That said I agree I’d rather get him to Milwaukee.
He just signed
Why not play? Seems like ideal time to give him a taste and see where he stands. Not like him sucking gonna hurt us this season.I'm guessing he doesn't play just hangs out with the team. Does he start getting paid if he's just here practicing?
