Marty ST. Louis. 5'8 180 lbs. (current height and weight. i'm certain that he came into the league quite a bit smaller). some one forgot to tell him that he was too small. actually, i'm certain that there were many that judged him on size alone. can we put the whole 'size thing' to rest now?

So you think we will let Cammarata go as a RFA and some team will pick him up and he will go on to a successful career?

Strength and smarts will help him advance.....hope he has it in spades. Jason Blake without the attitude would be awesome.

Funny you reference Blake as he also played juniors in Waterloo. TC is going to be one of those select few who can overcome the size issue. His skill level is elite.

It's interesting you say Cammarrata has elite talent, though I feel the jury is still out on that, I'm still quite surprised how much he outscored Nathan Mackinnon for 2 seasons when they were together at Shattuck's St Mary.

Just FYI: In Arthur Staple's chat this morning, he said that the Islanders no longer hold the rights to Mikko Koskinen.

I was under the assumption that the Isles held his rights as they qualified him when he was an RFA, but I guess they may have relinquished the rights since then.

Another terrible pick, hated the pick when we made it, and now we have nothing to show for it. Terrible pick.

Right when he's getting into his prime, playing well in Finland, and we lose him. Could have had Ryan O'Reilly, Jacob Silfverberg, Drew Shore, Robin Lehner, Stefan Elliott, Richard Panik, Dmitri Orlov, etc.

Expected the Islanders to take a goalie which they did later with Nilsson, but not at 31 since I was a bit surprised that no one took O"Reilly in the first round. Thought they might grab him 31.

Wow. I think Garth was set on replenishing the goaltending pool in 2009 but that looks bad in retrospect. Still have Nilsson, Lee, de Haan, and Zeeker from that draft but imagine Lehner, Silfverberg, or O'Reilly instead of Koskinen.

Weren't you the guy who said that not taking Filatov would haunt us forever, or something along those lines? I remember reading "MARK MY WORDS" in that thread. As well as bashing the Hamonic pick, because it was a "reach" or because you never heard of him... can't quite remember.

Either way, it's easy to criticize 4 years later, but you of all people should know how easy it is to make the wrong pick.

You have a GREAT memory blinkman360, kudos. Yeah I agree that I said those EXACT words. I really thought Filatov would be the next Bure. Interesting thought process is, what if the Islanders had selected Filatov, and then they Bailey'd him (started him in thr NHL right away) ? Who's to say he wouldn't have flourished better than Bailey. Hell, in his few NHL games, he had a hat trick (something Bailey hasn't done in 4 seasons), AND he was on the 4th line and played 8 minutes when he did it. Who's to say he wouldn't have flourished with Tavares in his second season as an Islander.

A lot of times, players success or failure depends on situations. He just happened to be drafted onto a team with a coach, Hicthcock, who preaches defense first. How do you expect a thoroughbred to be effective if he's getting 8 minutes a game on the 4th line. Who's to say he wouldn't have gotten 20 minutes a game with the Islanders on the top 2 lines ? Where do you think he'd be now after 4 seasons with Tavares ?

Not saying Filatov ISN'T a bust, but at 22, he's producing just as much as our Kirill Petrov, who's thought of as a good prospect. This season at UFA, he finished 3rd on the team in goals, the guys ahead of him are 27 years old.

As far as Hamonic, I wasn't impressed by his output or size at the time, he was 6'0" 195 when we drafted him, and rated 90 something by CSS and ISS, and we picked him in the 50's. So no, initially I wasn't happy with the pick. And I've been wrong plenty of times, I'm the first to admit.

I think Filatov could have worked out had CBJ taken a few years to develop him, but I understand why they rushed him along. He was getting some pretty impressive reviews and player comparisons. I'd be lying if I said that I didn't want him at the time, so you're not alone in that, but I've learned to not freak out on draft day because of the uncertainty with just about every prospect. Including guys like Ness who look like great picks, and guys like Hamonic who look like reaches.

BTW, I'd like to take credit for having a great memory, but someone bumped the thread a month or so ago. For what its worth, you weren't the only one pissed off.

Oh man, I'll have to look that up, I always get a laugh at some of my Pejorative Slured rants from years ago. I wish I could find my stuff from 1999, Loved the Connolly and Pyatt picks, HATED the Mezei and Kudroc picks. And my rants about the Isles NOT taking Denis Shvidki over Mezei were just as funny as my Filatov rants.

and of course our favorite, Loic Leduc:cry:

Wow! Just WOW!!!

If this is true, then it's official: what was basically a late first rounder has truly become an absolute waste. It was a pick that was trending in that direction, but if this is accurate, the nail has been bammed into the coffin.

He went much higher than just about anyone had thought and he wasn't even put in the position he was intended for: to immediately be a back-up on the Island.

Now get this - with his departure from our ranks, the only thing we have to show for no less than picks 26, 31, 37 and 56 is a convelescent Calvin de Haan.

That's it.

That's all.

Now, I'm not gonna list the names of guys we theoretically could have had, but for your own entertainment, you might just want to take a look at some of the guys that ended up going 26-56.

I don't know if this should be seen as a success for the Isles or a failure? I mean heck, to think that despite the antics they pulled with those four picks (as well as a 3rd and a 7th), they STILL got Tavares, Nilsson, Cizikas and Lee as well as a de Haan who has NHL skills, but maybe not the body for the NHL game. That's a heck of a haul.

Had they simply kept those other picks and used them wisely, they could have had this team completely rebuilt within two drafts.

The Koskinen pick was always the wrong one and it reeked of desperation all the while. A few of us were highly critical at the time and have been proven right.

And by the way, by tomorrow Cody Rosen will no longer be an Isles prospect either!

Degen Rex, I guess Loic Ledufus will always be linked to scott99 lol.

Scott I was going to post this about a month ago but thought nothing would come from it so I didn't. Sent a letter with a few dollars to cover postage to Cape Breton asking for an autographed picture of Leduc. Just got my mail from today and guess what, I"m the proud owner of the only Loic Leduc autographed picture in the world. In my letter I wrote about being an Islander fan since 1972 and how much I follow and root for the prospects. The team gave my letter to Loic and besides the picture he enclosed a short note thanking me for being interested and if ( a big if) he makes the NHL he hopes I come watch him play. I will send out another note saying to Loic I am rooting for him and will certainly come. We make funny jokes but he really sounds like a great, kid, to write back. Proof that hockey players are the best, never expected him to write a few words to me.

I guess this makes me president of the Loic Leduc fan club. Scott, if you wish you can be the Vice President.

Seriously, that's really cool. I hope the kid pans out so we can all look back at the Ledoofus talk and laugh. Scott has been a great sport about it though when he's not frothing at the mouth. ;)
