Skjei. Talbot.

On Skjei--great skater--excellent size. Barring injury he's going to be an NHL regular for a long time. He just needs more development time right now. McDonagh, Moore and Skjei all have similar size, skill packages. Since McDonagh got here first the other two could just about be called clones.

Kristo and/or Hrivik are definitely closer to actually making it but IMO Skjei has the better chance of lasting and having a bigger long term impact.

Another good year and Talbot (one way contract) is going to replace Biron. Talbot IMO is the single most important player for our AHL farm team.

If Boo builds on his Freshman year and shows well at the WJC he could easily vault into the top-5 (w/graduations) in the next set of rankings.

Nobody will graduate before our next poll in January. But if he gets over a ppg in both college and WJC, he can be top-5.

A kid drafted in Skjei's position has only a 1/3 chance to make the NHL even as a marginal player. He has shown nothing last year to increase those odds. He remains unready for AHL, and probably would need significant progress to play in that league. If he shows a lot of improvement this year, then we can rank him higher next time, but there isn't much to get excited over now.

I'm with EB on this. Naturally gifted exceptional skater = speed, mobility; everything else is a crapshoot, esp. as we wait for him to fill out.

Honestly, he shouldn't care if he's #5 or #10 if the difference is due to the others. If we have a monstrous pool of prospects and he's only #8, then it doesn't matter.

But assuming a couple prospects underwhelm, as they usually do, he has a reasonable chance to crack our top-5 if he does really well.

P.S. I have high hopes for MSC this season. I think he can definitely handle AHL hockey.

Matter of opinion. One of the last guys cut from the WJC team. U o Minnesota always seems loaded with D. Skjei showing well in training camp. This kid needs some time is all. I'm betting he turns out fine.
