I think I'm done voting for Lappy. I don't think he should be a prospect or ranked behind these kids. At this point better just be left off the list then being like 8th

The age thing with Miro is he's 1 year older than Cristal and 2 years younger than Lappy so I put Miro 1st among them, but with Lappy he's 1 year younger than Big Protas and 4.5 years older than Lil Pro, so can you have more confidence Lappy will be a middle 6 NHL center than Lil Pro? And that's before you get into upside or additional years of control which are the 2 most important things.
Lots to unpack here.

I'll start by saying I agree with Miro over LaPierre. That's why I voted that way. I was only pointing out how bias can inflluence the way we describe people and things, such as rounding their ages up, or not, depending on how we feel about the player.

First - Bear in mind that "upside or additional years of control" aren't necessarily the 2 most important things to everyone. Those are two variables in a much larger equation, yes, but each and every one of us likely weighs them differently.

Second - "...can you have more confidence Lappy will be a middle 6 NHL center than Lil Pro" - Considering Lil Pro isn't a center, yes, I have more confidence that Lappy will be one.

Thirdly -
If you're comparing production of Lappy to Big Pro given their ages, there's this:
In 2023-24, the season in which he turned 22, Lappy had 8 goals and 14 assists in 51 games, .43 points per game.
In 2022-23, the season in which Protas turned 22, he had 4 goals and 11 assists in 58 games, .25 points per game.

I'm struggling to compare the players with NHL experience to the younger players.

It's easy to imagine a bright future for a player but the odds are generally not with you there.

I guess the best way to think about it is how desirable would an individual be - in other words, what is their trade value. But even then you have the impact of their contractual status - which is not merely a pure prospect evaluation.

I'm thinking the contracts are not too big of a factor in this sample relative to how heavily it weighs for an established NHL player.

I look at this poll/rankings as who has the chance to be the best NHL’er, of the group.

I vote for that person.

I don’t see Lapierre as being better than what these other guys may be. Is he better now? Yes to Cristall and Hutson. Probably No to Leonard or Miro.

I personally have Lappy next. At 5.

I know he hasn’t exactly taken a huge step this season, but having their most recent 1st round draft pick (trending) around 6-10 in the rankings speaks volumes on the work they’ve done the past few years.
