Blues would pass. We can’t take on Forbort because we already have a glut of bottom pairing d-men that we need to sort out. And I’m not interested in moving Schenn. He’s a leader on the team and one of the front runners for captain (if we name one). People can complain about his contract or whatever but holding onto him as a culture guy will be worth it IMO, much like we did with Alex Steen.

I like Frederic though and would be happy to acquire him at some point. Just not sure we make sense as trade partners right this moment - I have no idea what we could realistically give up to make it work.

Some good points. But your Blues have enough leadership imo (in general). Forbort is a UFA after next season.

I would have thought...the Blues could use some cap relief (moving forward) + have a glut of young center prospects.

Bruins could use a top 6C. Even though not the biggest fan of Schenn hefty long term salary

Yeah but that cap relief basically has to come on defense for it to make a difference.

Our cap situation up front will honestly be fine moving forward. You are correct, all of our top prospects are forwards (Dvorsky, Snuggerud, Dean, Bolduc, Stenberg) so we’ll be adding a lot of guys on ELCs over the next 2 years. We also have several expiring contracts next year (Vrana, Kapanen, Blais, Sundqvist), and guys like Saad and Hayes (since Philly retained 50% of his salary) should be easy to move if we need to move someone. So Schenn’s contract really will be fine, even if he eventually becomes a 4th liner. That’s why I brought up the Steen example since that’s what we did with him.

So if you want Krug back then we can talk lol. That’s the type of guy we’ll need to move instead.

It's super questionable that the Blues have enough leadership. With O'Reilly and Tarasenko's departure hanging over the team, they actually looked pretty lost at times and only started to look like a team with cohesion and heart with Schenn regularly playing 20 minutes a night down the stretch.

Without Schenn, it's basically Parayko, Thomas, and probably Faulk. There are vets like Saad and Leddy, who have never really emerged as obvious leaders. And Bortuzzo, who, despite his locker room presence, is only a borderline regular. I think their staff and management knows how important it is to have a heart and soul guy who gets a lot of minutes up front as an example to the young forwards.

People can project about how his contract will play out, but he's only 31 and has 123 points in his last 144 games. It's currently a good contract and will be for another couple seasons. So a team looking to acquire him would have to pay what he's actually worth right now.

I don't see the Blues being interested in trading Schenn unless the other team overpays drastically for him. We also have Zero desire for another LHD when we have Leddy, Krug, Scandella, Rosen, Tucker, and Perunovich

defense isnt his priority.
He absolutely fits Boston's style. He shouldn't be the C on the main defensive line, but he's good enough defensively to be a winger on one. His main value is bringing that blue-collar/physical element to a scoring line.

You're implying that's he's purely an offensive forward like Kyrou or Tarasenko, and that's off the mark.

Love Schenn, and he's the best candidate for the next captain of the Blues if he signs an extension, but I'd make this trade since the Blues are in a semi-rebuild right now.

He is already locked up for another 5 years...

But I do agree with Blues on a semi rebuild. Local Frederic could be a good fit.

I mean he has 5 years left 4 before he can sign an extension. Seems like a long time to wait

Schenn is someone we actually have penciled in as the veteran leader (the other possibly being Saad) that can help bring up a slew of young players that are about to enter the NHL squad in the next couple of years. There isn't much impetus to move him right now.

Much more likely is that we will try to get out of some long term financial commitments on D. That would make much more sense for us, since that's the long term issue that could seriously hamper the team's ability to load up and compete in 2-3 years.

This Blues fan says YES in a second.
Absolutely. In a heart-beat.

That is one of the contracts that I’d like to see Armstrong move ASAP (along with Krug).
