The top 10ish is pretty nice, but there's no 1st OA standout like the last couple of years.

I have him at 5. I think he has the offense in him to be a true top 6. In a normal draft, he'd be closer to 10 but it's that underwhelming this year for me that he just ends up being that high for now in my rankings. He's a gamer and shows up whenever it matters. Really love him. But if you don't believe in his offensive game, then yeah he's not a top 5 pick.

I like the top 10

I like the top 8 from a general consensus and upside feeling. I think that’s where the break looks like between “I’m gonna get a sure fire top guy respective of this class” and “hmmm…I could definitely consider trading down for extra picks”.

After that it gets weird. I think the variance between guys at the end of the top 10 and the middle of the 2nd round is going to be high and jumbled.

I think Schaefer is an absolute standout and the best blueline prospect since perhaps Dahlin. But perhaps riskier given his injury. And I think the top 3 is pretty elite too.

Agreed. I think the top 5-7 is quite strong. A team in that range will be getting a prospect that IMO pretty confidently projects as a 1st line or top-pair player.

After that, I don't think there will be much consensus.

I mean Cooley is on pace for a 70+ point season as a 20 year old. I wouldn't say that is nothing.

Cooley is a very good hockey player.

There’s also just nothing he has Hagens beat in at the same point.

If people want to sing the praises of Cooley (I agree!), maybe they should rethink if their perception of Hagens is high enough, given he was at a whole different level from Cooley at that age.

Yeah, and Hagens hasn’t declined this season either like that poster mentioned. Was the 1C for the Gold Medal winners at the WJC. One of the leading scorers at the tournament, and also having a decent season in the NCAA.

Was a weird post in general. Misa, Martone, and Hagens are all having good seasons. Same with Schaefer.

Sure, but you can only draft what is available in the class. He is top 5 unless there is another player you think is better. I am not sure I have found that person yet.

Selke these days needs you to be at a minimum as a 70pt + player these days it seems.

Sure, but you can only draft what is available in the class. He is top 5 unless there is another player you think is better. I am not sure I have found that person yet.

I think there is a few players with a fairly higher ceiling, but with much less risk.

I don’t like taking “safe” picks in the top 5. Although there is some potential he ends up as more, I don’t think he’s ever going to be more than a 2nd line player. Which is definitely not bad, but I’d always take the risk on guys that can be real difference makers

There's only a handful of guys in the last 25 years to go 2 pts/gm in their draft year in the Ohl. Sam Gagner is the only one who didn't end up an all star level player in the league. Even Gagner had a pretty good career. Mcdavid, Marner in the same year. Taveres (2x) and Spezza are the only others I can think of.
At this point Misa isn't getting the hype he deserves imo. I've got him and Hagens in their own tier of 2 . Behind Schaefer. Ahead of Martone and others in tier 3.

That's what I'm thinking too. It would not shock or surprise me to see him picked in the 8-12 range.

I agree with you. Desnoyers may well be a top 5 player in this draft but that is just another indicator to me of how weak this draft is.

Reminds me of PLD... But with more consistency. He'll be good... And PLD was drafted at #3 OA.

Desnoyers doesn't bring elite offense, but these kind of players (big 2 way Cs that dominate junior) don't last in a draft. Couturier is another exemple, but he went #8 OA.

#4-7 is about right.
