The Red Wings after tonight have 3 defensemen with 50+ points (Rafalski with 57, Lidstrom with 56, and Kronwall with 50). I was curious so I did some digging.

As far as I can tell only 3 teams have accomplished this feat before (one doing it twice in successive seasons).

The '75 Habs with Robinson, Lapointe, and Savard.
The '76 Islanders with Potvin, Potvin, and Westfall.
The '92 Capitals with Johansson, Iafrate, and Hatcher.
The '93 Capitals with Iafrate, Hatcher, and Cote.

Seemed noteworthy enough.

Westfall was a defensive forward.

The '88 Jets also accomplished it with Carlyle, Ellett, and Marois.

Certainly an impressive accomplishment, especially considering that only 9 defencemen have scored 50 points this year. In the '80, there were 20 or more every year.

First team I thought of instantly.

The '88 Flames were awfull close too with Suter, MacInnis and McCrimmon (who fell short)

Wait... something that just came to mind. Rafalski, Lidstrom, and Kronwall are currently ranked 3rd, 4th, and 8th in blueline scoring this year. Have three teammates ever finished in the top 10 (post expansion)?

In 1970-71 Bobby Orr, Dallas Smith, and Ted Green were all in the top 10. Neither Smith nor Green broke 50 points though.

Guy Lapointe, Larry Robinson, and Serge Savard each scored 60 or more points and were in the top 10 in 1974-75.
