Seething.....

I recently bought a not inexpensive bike from a well know Canadian store. After 2 or 3 rides (all on good trails), the bike started to have some problems...a clicking noise developed when the bike was pedaled, I couldn't shift into either high or low gear (21 spd). More serious, the handebars came loose as I was going a good clip almost causing me to go over the top. If I lived closer to this store and didn't have to borrow a vehicle to transport this P.O.S., I would have immediately returned it.

Anyway, I took it back today and was told that they will not refund bikes, but will have the same idiot who originally built it have a look at it....I made a large fuss (telling the employees that it was nothing personal against them, just that their employer is an *******) but got no satisfaction. Thinking of talking to my pal the lawyer.......Bottom line is that I no longer trust or want this crappy bike but seem stuck with it.

Anyone ever have a similar problem. How did you deal with it?

edit...apparently I was supposed to have received a brochure when I purchased the bike telling me their policy, but none was given to me, I was just told to keep my receipt.

I don't shop there anymore.

Me neither and I plan to tell a **** load of people who live in the area what happened. Not afraid of looking like an idiot who bought stuff from this crappy walmartish store if it can hurt their bottom line a bit.

I had a massive issue with a lawn mower only 2 weeks after buying it. took weeks to get a refund. as for your bike issue? don't buy cheap bikes and take it on trails. they are really only mean to road riding. go to their sister store sportchek they have far better bikes. I will never ever buy something that could break from CT. Dicks all of them. lesson learnt. I sure as hell did

It was a mountain bike and not one of the cheapies...1st time in 15 years that I purchased one. As far as the trail, it's a converted railway line that is in good shape, should not have been an issue imo.

which bike did you buy out of curiosity? I agree with what you're saying but CTs policy is such ******** I wouldn't dare take the risk again

Riding a Canadian tire bike in the trails.....

That's like skydiving with a dollarama parachute

Risky business

Canadian Tire bikes are fine, it's just that they're sold with the screws still loose, unlike many stores

You just need to tighten all the screws

Fixed to Ruin

Come wit it now!

I also recently bought a bike at CT. After having multiple issues and no luck from customer service I brought the bike to a local bike shop for proper adjustments and tuning. Cost me an extra 70$ but at least I got a bike that works perfectly now.

Did the same with a Walmart bike I bought for my kid. Only I got both kids bikes tuned up for the price you paid .

Thanks man, that's what I'll do. Seems insane to trust a guy to fix the bike considering he's the one who assembled in the 1st place. Cheers for all the other useful bits of advice.

No more Canadian Tire for me, unless they have a really good deal on training wheels. When they call me to pick up my "refurbished" bike, I will have words with their bike dude...I will summon the spirit of George Carlin when I say my piece.

Worked at Canadian Tire as my first ever job. Zero ****s were given, and I was fired in 3 weeks lol.

:) yeah I can appreciate that, but due to their negligence I almost had a serious crash...the ****er who works there (and the store owner) are going to hear about it, for all the good it'll do
