I am curious who people see as young, undervalued centers (true centers, not undersized wingers who played center in juniors for 60 games) worth targeting in future trade markets. At this point I don't think it is realistic for us to acquire an absolutely obvious top-six center in the trade market. We simply don't have the assets and other teams aren't looking to ship out obvious talent at the center position (without receiving a center in return, or maybe a top pair defensemen). I am envisioning players who still have upside and a realistic expectation of getting better.

I always liked Mavrik Bourque, not sure if Dallas would be open to moving him or not.

San Jose has Bystedt and Bordelau on their AHL team, I would check in on both those guys to see if one could be available.

I would kick the tires on Owen Beck and Hunter Haight.

Two guys who have been kind of disappointing I might try to pick up for super cheap to see if they could benefit from a change of scenery would be Brendan Brisson and Xavier Bourgault.

Stinks we didn't make a bigger push for Cozens, I think he fits your criteria perfectly.

Owen Beck is an interesting name. I like Bystedt but think he is probably a pretty big part of the SJS rebuild plans. I haven't paid attention to Haight since his draft year. Brisson was just moved if memory serves me correctly.

I am curious to see what becomes of Bourque. I think of him more as a winger, but haven't paid much attention since his call up.

Those were just same names I could think of at an initial glance.

I would have to look at more teams and their pipelines and see if there are roster logjams to where other guys might make sense to look at.

What’s our comparable package for Cozens?

The sens gave up Norris + Bernard Docker

Kasper + Berggren + AlJo ? That feels steep and I’m not sure the sabres would even prefer that.

Ostapchuk was another deal.

I think the salary swap made the deal work for both sides.

Noah Ostlund
Anton Wahlberg
Michael Hage
Danny Nelson
Samu Salminen

Still looking.

That’s a good list but Ostlund and Hage are untouchables in their orgs.

Danny Nelson was a guy I was big on in his draft year.
Felix Nilsson is another guy I think has NHL potential.
Oskar Fisker Molgaard
Felix Unger Sorum
Man…that a Cleveland pick in 2023 cost us a lot of potential…

Krebs might have more than he’s displaying in Buffalo.
Viktor Lodin sounds intriguing. Was an overeager drafted by Ottawa. Came over, played part of an AHL season, 1 game NHL. Back to Sweden and he’s doing really well now.
Kastelic seems like a prototypical tough 4th line center.

Jack McBain also looks like a prototypical hard nosed center. Though I think he’s got more potential than that.

Ogee I thought I remember you pounding the table on Nick Lardis leading up to the 2023 draft? Man is that kid ever electric. 70 goals already and counting. You might have been onto something ! But yeah for purposes of this thread he has been shuffled to wing already.

I forgot about him.

GDI…Augustine was a solid pick but Gibson and Cleveland in the 2nd when there was so much other talent still on the board in 2023.
