Would you have it any other way? It sucks being on the losing end of parity, but it means every year you can dream.

Since the 05 lockout, only two teams (the 08 Red Wings and 13 Blackhawks) have managed to win the cup after winning the Presidents Trophy for the best record in the regular season.

In those 18 seasons, only five of those Presidents Trophy winners (the aforementioned two plus the 07 Sabres, 11 Canucks and 15 Rangers) have got past even the second round.

Six of those (06 Red Wings, 09 Sharks, 10 Capitals, 12 Canucks, 19 Lightning and 23 Bruins) have lost in the first round.

Now do you believe that there's a curse?

No such thing as a curse like this. Every playoffs there is a 15 in 16 chance that the Presidents Trophy winner will not win the Cup.

15/16 is 9.4% chance.

2/18 have won. That 11.1% chance, better but very very marginal difference.

The playoff seeding is mostly meaningless. Just getting in is only what will matter.

Taking/betting on 1 team instead of the field is a curse? No it's pure statistics and probability

I really like this curse. As a Panthers fan it feels so nice to pass the honor to fans of another team.

Honestly regular season is too easy for a team that wins almost all its games. They don't know what hard is. They also don't have some off nights when they save energy because they are so interested in statistics. This first reason is why Florida battled harder and the second reason explains why some Boston players were either injured or exhausted now when it counted. Many of them are also quite old compared to relatively young Florida players. Turnovers for example doesn't happen without the other team's forwarders being very active.

Thats kind of a whacky argument.

"Reg seaaon is too easy"

But its not the first season for most (any?) Of these players, and some of them did get to big cup runs or even won cups.

"Too easy" tell that to Ullmark, Lindholm, Zacha, Bertuzzi, etc who played on some stinkers teams before boston

No such a thing as a curse, it just proves in hockey winning a playoff series is a lot harder than having a good regular season.

Looks like the President's Trophy winner has won 7 times in the year following the PT win in 36 years.,_(19.4%).

If they"re cursed, it's often a short-term curse.

The last 8, and 9 of the last 10, have failed to get past the second round.

There is no curse. This is what you gear up for in the regular season. You want the most points in the season. It gives you home ice, it gives you the easier match up too. One thing to wonder is why in years past, even in the 1980s and 1990s did the 1st overall team do so much better in the playoffs, even if they didn't win the Cup?
