Islands in the stream.
The problem with the D is that if we are going to have a top 3 instead of a top 4, you kinda need a Pronger type, which we don't have. I love the Ekholm-Bouchard pairing but these aren't 28 minute a night guys. But I'm willing to be patient with Nurse-Emberson and hope the forward depth can outscore our problems. I'm expecting a rough GA stat
Wonder if any of the coverage problems are related to the scoring problems. Some of the players, Hello Drai, appear frustrated with not cashing. Team has been susceptible to getting too deep and getting caught on some counters.
Nugent Hopkins was their best player especially in the first. Great shot that hit iron, threaded passes that didn't get converted, and strong own zone coverage support.
Yep. Nuge was playing very well and not the only game he has. Even on the PP GA he's aware of every situation on ice and was almost in position but the shooter was even better as he stood away from net to get the open net shot. Made it more of a challenge for Nuge to cover. So glad Nuge got his adult strength and is somehow better at post peak age. Physically he's aging like fine wine. Nice to have him on this contract and he's been better than in the previous contracts.

Missed the game, done with preseason, but just looking at the score there has to be at least some concern.
I know preseason doesn't mean much but when a full/near full lineup is consistently getting beat soundly, it raises some red flags.
Hopefully they can just turn it on for the regular season because this preseason didn't inspire much confidence, to say the least.
I mean, last preseason weren’t they like 5-2 or something and we all know how the season started. I’m zero percent worried. It’s such a stupidly long season. There are ups and downs. But when games start to matter Mcdavid and co find that gear. The roster will also change as the season progresses. Even if they tread at .500 to start the first month it’s still a million times better than 2-9–1. Lol

More talent on the team has helped. Nuge's strength is utility to slide in and around the lineup with ability to play with anyone. He got the 'Draisaitl treatment' before Draisaitl got the Draisaitl treatment with marginal rotating talent when the team ran The Stack Line. If they opt to load up this year I actually could see Nuge's distributor game being a very good fit with Skinner and I think Arvy's is consistent to work well really with anyone. His PK work is important too.

Line 2 is still working to find their chemistry. Love Arvy's game with energy and fearlessness to play in hard ice. Skinner is the chemistry experiment to be unlocked. Finding soft ice while playing a quiet game he hasn't found that yet. My projection is modest with him - 20 to 25 goals which could be more but better conservative on a niche specialist.

I loved Line 3's playoff run. But anticipate Janmark eventually moves down to a better 4W role. Though that requires Podkolzen to get traction confidence wise and with opportunistic production to push upward. I've liked Henrique's game through pre-season.

That's not his salary. This year or next year. Be accurate if you're trying to weakly chirp one of the best players in the world on a f***ing PRESEASON game backcheck.
I believe the topic is the SC game winning goal (clip posted by Broberg Speed). So relax nobody is ‘chirping’ your boy on his (admittedly) weak pre-season performance.
This place. SMH.
Indeed. This place would be much better if people would actually read the posts to which they are replying.

People praising RNH must be drunk. He was bad in his own zone and only slightly better in the o-zone. Botched plays on the sloppy PP as well. I don’t really care that much, but it’s too rich to see a guy getting bouquets after a weak performance like that.

Continues to force high risk passes on the PP. Annoying as hell.

Backed in too much and a weak AF goal let in by SKinner.
To this day I have no clue what Kulak was thinking on that play. Then you have Skinner cheating for the pass even though a near 60 goal scorer has the puck on his stick and an open lane to the net but most likely the goal is on Foegle for losing his man which probably caused Kulak and Skinner to cheat.

Would it have been nice to have some better individual performances and cohesiveness during preseason? Sure. Am I at all worried about our top players being prepared for games when they actually mean something? Nope. Last week Sabre fans were feeling pretty good about their pre season and were optimistic about the upcoming season, while Devil fans were pretty down about their chances. Script flipped once the games got real. If Oiler fans didn’t learn something about patience and overreacting and counting the team out from last season, then that lesson will likely never be learned. Some holes need to be filled and chemistry might take a while on some lines/pairs, but the boys will be fine this year.

Sure they give the blue very easily
But then again that shot had no business going in.

Unblocked view, wrister, short side. Skinner cheated and didn't really reacted.

Additionally we got our trademark half assed back check from Dr 12 millions allowing 23 to separate himself and crash the net.

Hockey is a game of mistakes and kulak only one here is not cutting the blue aggressively enough on a 3 on 2 rush?
That goal is on Kulak and Kulak alone. Everyone else didn't make a mistake. That includes Skinner, Reinhart is a 57 goal scorer, that's where he scores from. The video gives you every angle... watch it.

Kulak sucks and not just for caving in our dreams. He's a bad hockey player and everyone pretends he's a good hockey player.
