He lets Brzustewicz play 20 minutes a night to develop into a much better player on our strong AHL team. There's no world where we should logically bring Bruz up to play 3rd pair or healthy scratch over prime AHL time.
They should just let Barrie go from his PTO AND send Bruz down to play top pair minutes in the AHL.
Go with
Bean/Andersson
Weegar/Miranov
Bahl/Pachal
Hanley as the 7th

Barrie would be the sort of cherry on the top of the Sundae signing that says the Flames haven't actually decided to try and retool but are instead trying to appease the vets who don't want to participate in a retool.

Nothing about Conroy has given an indication that we expect playoffs this season. Conroy has also extensively discussed about his disagreements with how previous training camps were run before he was GM. Barrie signing feels like cover for a future Andersson trade

Conny might be thinking of getting something for him at TDL 🤔

What're they supposed to say? These are still pro athletes that feed off competition and want to be the best. They all know it's bullshit, but there is nothing worse than your bosses telling you that you suck and aren't good enough

They will try and pass Hanley through waivers before anything.

I don't see how Barrie affects our rebuild though. He's a powerplay specialist who's bad defensively. Our PP was abysmal last year until the end of the season. If our plan is to boost Kuzmenko's a d Mantha's value then Barrie makes sense.

Also, Weegs and Ras are going to need to play more PK minutes, so it might be in their best interests in be on PP2

There is a knock on. If they waive and send Hanley down that means Hanley and Tinordi are going to take practice and possibly game time away from the 6 prospect dmen we have with the wranglers. If the Flames keep 8 dmen it means they might need to waive Pelletier in order to reward Honzek and Klapka on the opening night roster since both earned a roster spot in camp. All for a dman who will probably give up 5vs5 goals at the same clip as contributing to power play goals

Waiving him does not mean he'll be sent down.

As for the defense, I doubt either takes a top 4 spot from Solo, Grush, Bruz, and Poirier. Tinordi is there more to protect the kids, Hanley has a solid shot of just getting claimed though.

I think Honzek maybe gets a couple games but will almost certainly be sent down before an ELC year is burned. It's much better to play him PP1 and 1st line with the likes of Coronato and Morton.

His contract doesn’t slide if he goes to the AHL right? So the 9 games won’t matter.

Yes, it still slides. The NHL and CHL have different rules to determine age. While Honzek is 20 by CHL standards, he is still 19 by NHL standards. Contracts slide up to the July 1 two years after they were first eligible to be drafted, or when they play their 10th NHL game; whichever comes first.

For instance, Kylington since he was drafted out of Sweden, he was AHL eligible immediately and was assigned there. The first 2 years of his ELC contract still slid due to his age/signing age. (If you sign at 18 it can slide 2 years, 19 it can slide 1 year, and 20 it doesn't slide... with an exception if the player signs @ 19 and turns 20 before Dec 31, like Brzustewicz)

Got it thank you. I always get mixed up with the 19 year olds.
