Peters has the Canes playing a pretty crisp, fast-paced game already. I'm surprised how strong the general sense of positioning and support has been in this game.

Williams fits right in with this squad. That looks like a very smart signing.

Watching Darling, I can't help but think of that criticism of how they handled Lack and his positioning deep in the net. Darling is definitely cut from that same cloth, hanging out way down low and letting the puck hit him due to his size. He looks comfortable and confident.

OK, your D core is sick. What a treat to watch. Canes were my dark horse tram to be top 5 in the league this year and this game confirms that

The puck moving is memorizing

Tbh, I'm even surprised at how well they moved the puck tonight. I hope it's a sign of good things to come.

Good stuff, hopefully they can keep that kind of effort up in the regular season.

Hanifin was really flying out there, if he works on his shot he'll be a real force to be reckoned with in the future.

Necas is a player. I can't even think of a word to describe him properly. Sneaky? Greasy? Everything he does looks effortless and he's always in the right place. I think they should keep him they the state fair road trip and send him to the AHL or back to Brno with a sack of cheeseburgers and protein shakes. Let him marinate and put on some muscle. I imagine he'll be ready next season.

Bean looked pretty good too. Had a cheeky little strip on mcdavid near the end there. Hopefully he has a big year in juniors, given how comfortable he's looked playing against (mostly) NHL players.

Wallmark could probably step in as the third or fourth line center this season, but there really isn't room for him with Ryan and Krueger. I don't think more AHL time will hurt though, and I'd imagine he'll be the first call up if/when a center gets injured.

Man, if Darling can just not **** the bed this should be a very exciting season for us.

It was a sight to see, and they were so comfortable all over the ice. They handled every play with ease

With Darling I think this team takes a major, major step. They'll put the league on notice soon.

Man, I thought Bean looked really good too. We may seriously have 8 quality NHL d-men here, 9 if you count Dahlbeck.

How has Teuvo Teravainen looked so far?

Much more comfortable and confident than last season, of course, it's only pre-season so the games aren't very intense or physical and that's where last season his effectiveness was diminished. Still, if the way he has been playing in the pre-season continues into the regular season, I can see him scoring 20+ goals, especially if the NHL continues to call as many slashing calls, even if it's only the first part of the season.

I said it earlier in the thread, but that was probably the best I've seen Hanifin play. His skating was superb, his passes were excellent and his defensive reads and decision making looked solid. Only pre-season, but he looked like he was controlling the tempo of the game while he was out there. We've talked about the potential of this defensive group, but last night they were incredible and if that's what we have in store for us this season, it bodes well.

Exciting that this happened against a team that has Cup aspirations.

While I'm not going to change my expectations based on the preseason (make the playoffs and I'll be happy, that's what this year is about), I certainly wouldn't say no if they did some of the stuff you optimists are saying.

Oh, I still think they are going to have a tough time making the playoffs, even if Darling is good. It's not out of the realm of possibilities, but the Metro is just so damn tough. NYR, PIT, WSH and probably CLB are going to be in the playoffs from our division along with 3 of MTL, BOS, TOR, TBL, and OTT from the Atlantic. Philly, with Patrick and some of their young defensemen are going to be much better this year with goaltending being their wildcard. So in essence, we are likely battling it out with Philly, NYI, and 2 of OTT,BOS, MTL,TOR, TBL for the last wildcard spot. That assumes someone like Florida or Buffalo doesn't surprise teams as well.

I think the team is much better suited to compete for that spot this year, but the key will be not being out of it by Thanksgiving.
