LOL. Optimist. It clearly will be the 15th or 16th pick.
I'm ok with the 16th pick...

There's a 100% chance that Carrick will clear waivers. Every team has a Carrick or two in the AHL. Also, a team has to keep him on their roster or they themselves would have to waive him to send him to the AHL. You can't just steal other team's propsects and stash them in the minors. Who has room for Carrick on their NHL roster?
I've never been particularly impressed with him at the AHL level. I don't think he's an NHL defenseman. Anybody can have a good preseason game or two. Remember Patrick O'Sullivan, Ryan Bayda, Niklas Nordgren, etc?
Carrick's ceiling is Brett Carson. It doesn't matter if we lose him.
PDG also has a 90% chance of clearing. I'm not going to say 100% but it's close.
On a positive note, the new uniforms looked really good in live play. I wasn't sure about the black trim at first, but I'm sold on it now.
At least Dahlbeck had played like 90 nhl games. I think Carrick played like 2. Seems like small enough chance that 100% is close enough. And I certainly won't lose sleep if we lose him, though I'd like to keep him.
? Last season Tennyson got sent down after having a terrible camp and they needed someone to expose for expansion. They had a big hole on the bottom pair. If Tennyson had made the team and their was no expansion draft, they probably don't claim Dahlbeck. The Canes are known as having one of the better defense cores and actual defenses in the NHL, and picked Klas Dahlbeck off waivers last year.
I definitely think it's more likely than not that he'd clear, but to say 100%?

I use sarcasm and dry humor that's often misunderstood as me being an *******,

On another note- I was displeased when they selected Bean- but I really liked his play last night, especially on PP, although he should have shot the puck a little more.
Am I wrong?
It's not just you. We are sarcastic with everyone...think of it as an indication that you belong here.
It's not anywhere close to 10-20 players claimed, at least not at the beginning of the season. Last year there were 6 players claimed, in 15-16 there were 5, 14-15 there 4, and in 13-14 there were 5. It seems to be about five players per year claimed at the beginning of the season.Taking the "he's not going to get claimed" route is the safest play in the book, as there are hundreds of players sent down and probably only 10-20 that get claimed. You'd be silly to not take those odds if you're trying to predict an outcome. But it's worth remembering that of those hundreds of players, 10-20 get claimed. I don't think anyone is saying it's a mortal lock that either of those players get claimed, but of the players around the league that will hit waivers the first time this year, I would put them in the top 25 or so that would likely attract some degree of interest. PDG's NHL experience has been largely positive but nothing overwhelming. There are teams out there that would love to have that kind of option in a 4th line capacity or even to keep in the pressbox until needed. Same deal with Carrick. People know how crowded the blueline is here and they're probably going to look a little harder at guys that don't make our team than they would at places in other locations for that reason. There's just not a lot of room.
If Bean comes through as a strong addition, I really don't know what we'll do on defense. We already have 3 good LHD, all 23 or younger, who all slot perfectly into the lineup. We *have* to trade someone at that point, we can't stick Fleury or Bean in the press box.
My gosh, if Bean can play his off side effectively...
Slavin - Pesce
Hanifin - Faulk
Fleury - Bean
With everyone in their athletic prime, would be pretty close to a Platonic ideal of what a defense group can be.
Salary cap would be a bear, but still.
It'd also be a waste...
Not if it wins a Stanley Cup.
Slavin/Pesce/Fleury eat up almost all PK minutes in a game, Faulk/Hanifin/Bean feast on the PP. Split the even strength minutes evenly across three pairs. Nobody gets gassed, nobody plays outside their strengths.
Sick defense is sick.
