Just FYI to folks who may not know how they run a preseason roster.

In many ways they are running 2 separate teams, with the goalies being the one position that you’ll see switch around some.

The team that went to Buffalo is that second team. They’re the types who really have no chance of making the NHL roster out of camp.

So the guys getting scratched tonight in Detroit, Wallinder, Veleno, Edvinsson, Compher, etc, are part of what we’ll call the “NHL Camp” team. Guys that are gonna be in the NHL, or Detroit sees as being close, they wanna take a good look at, etc. That’s why they weren’t gonna send Lombardi and Wallinder to Buffalo. MBN and Tuomisto had been practicing with the NHL guys but looks like they’ve been moved into that second grouping as well now.

Think it says a lot about what they think of Wallinder and Lombardi in this camp btw. Like I said the other day, hearing really good things about both, in regards to the impression they’re making this camp.

Set plays are usually saved for the regular season, preseason is more about getting everyone to play within a system.

The system apparently is to lose to a bunch of Penguins AHL scrubs, lol.

Coaches are trying to evaluate the player they don't know, not the ones they already know.

If Gus doesn't click, then the default has to be Mo. As long as they make the right decision when regular season starts then it doesn't matter.

You must be new to preseason games. The NHL vets are not going at 100%, but those fighting for a spot on the team are. This happens every year.

I refuse to take preseason as anything but a chance to watch some Wings hockey again. Even Plausible Keats won't spend any ink on it.
