There are few things in life that are as meaningless and simultaneously anticipated as the first pre-season Rangers game.

Kind of strange that Schneider is playing today while Fox, Trouba, Lindgren, Miller, and Jones aren't. Wonder if that means those five already won roster spots and Schneider is battling with the likes of Harpur, Mackey, and Ruhwedel for the last spot as a regular.

The Rangers have always had some regulars in on any given night in preseason. Schneider is a lock to make the team and he'd have to clear waivers to go down anyway and would be instantly grabbed by any number of teams that have been interested in him in trade talks before. The only way he's not in the lineup on opening night is if he's injured or some kind of personal emergency situation.

Bruins game day on their official site has very few of their regulars playing tonight and none of their big name players. Bussi and DiPietro in goal. Lohrei, Peeke and Wotherspoon on D. Also Oesterle on D who has quite a bit of NHL experience. At forward--only Johnny Beecher and Mark Kastelic are locks to make their team. Vinni Lettieri, Patrick Brown have some NHL experience. Jaxon Nelson was a sought out college free agent towards the end of last year who finished the year in Providence and Lysell and Merkulov are their highest other prospects tonight.

I believe terms of the pre-season games (negotiated between individual clubs) are usually you have to dress a certain number of regulars. That said, the away team usually dresses the bare minimum and save their stars for the home preseason games for better ticket sales.
