They're fortunate that Andrae has played well in pre-season, because by the sounds of things, they're not impressed by anybody else among the defensemen. When they have to recall someone else besides Andrae, whoever it is, will say a lot about things. They've been concerned about defensive depth within the organization since before Briere took over, and haven't done very much to address that.

Boulton sat down and then ends an offensive zone possession to get in his person revenge 🙄

Only reason to invite a bum like that to camp is he isn't on another team's camp roster

Cal Petersen may be the backup by November

Well, it is that, too. They felt bringing in Drysdale accelerated the process of that. And they did draft and sign Gill, but anyone in this past draft would not have been likely to be in that mix for this season. It will just seem like a waste of time when Belpedio becomes next man up.

Can't wait to see this stiff taking up a spot on th LHV roster. He will then sign an NHL contract make his Flyers debut in March 2025.

Just a terrible hockey player. Offers nothing to help a team.

Both this guy and Eklind can not skate a lick, but they are big. Cannot believe they were signed. And that there is all you need to know about the Flyers.
I was told they will be getting a long look and have a decetn shot to make the team.

Drafted Bonk, Mills, Sotheran, traded for Drysdale. Johnson was a good veteran depth pickup.
Guy to watch is Moline, off to a good start in the USHL, good testing ground (19 in Nov).
I expect them to draft at least 2 D-men this summer.

Buium would have helped, but then gapping hole at center.
Takes time to fix everything.

Keith Jones said they signed him because he was always cheering on his teammates on the bench in London.
He'll be bouncing between Reading and LHV.

They were signed for depth at LHV.
You entice them by promising a shot in TC, they know they weren't good enough.
Short-term before draft picks start showing up in LHV in greater numbers the next two years.

Always cracks me up when you throw out names of players they drafted like they are sure fire NHL players. Of that group they drafted Bonk is the only one who is almost guaranteed to see NHL ice time.

Boulton fn sucks. End of story. Has no business playing pro hockey.

Why did you parrot the Eklind and Abols were going to get a long look and shot to make the team then? Everyone but you knew and said they had no shot. LHV was where they would be.

Bonk looked better, not surprising, he's only 19, takes more time for defensive D-men to adjust to NHL game (can't just outskate everyone). Needs another year in the CHL, then compete for a spot next fall, but will probably start in the AHL.

Andrae also looked better against weaker competition, he's the first call-up on defense.

Richard looked good, he's a top call-up, but no, he's not as good as Hathaway. He's a AHL+ player who has raised his game the last two seasons, but he's also 28. Hathaway is a proven NHL forward with top third speed and one of the best forecheckers in the league.

Avon has the jets, good size but is only 21 and missed a full season due to COVID. He's my choice for breakout player in LHV. In some ways, Leier with NHL size. His upside depends on whether he can polish his offensive skills enough to score at the NHL level.

Not much else stood out to me.

I thought that the best Flyers player on the ice last night was Hathaway. That doesn’t say much for the roster depth.
Hathaway should stand out against AHL players, especially given his style of play (less dependent on linemates).

We know LHV is split between AHL plus guys, young players and scrubs.

Richard and Andrae can play in the NHL right now, not at a high level, but respectable.
Belpedio has shown he can play for short periods before he's exposed.

The younger guys are more ??? Avon, Tuomaala, McDonald, etc. have to make strides before they'd be considered as call-ups. Rizzo, Desnoyers are more "do or die."

Most of the best prospects will be CHL etc., Bonk, Barkey, Bump, Sotheran, Berglund, Ciernak, Gill, Powell, Zavragin, Bjarnason.

PS: If you want a real long-shot, Flyers still have rights to Tomek. He's 27, but injuries have held him back. Started on a regular basis last season, .908 Sv%, then really stepped up in Czechia POs: 14g .936 Sv%. A big season could put him on NHL radar.

Drafted Bonk
Looked meh, needs more time but not impressed with his camp.

Meh

Meh

traded for Drysdale
Coach says he can't play

Johnson was a good veteran depth pickup
Absolutely not

This is incredibly optimistic to expect anything other than bottom pairing defender from Moline at this point.

So a whole pile of meh, with possibly a second pair dman in Bonk if you get lucky, and a reclamation project you traded your 5th overall pick for (because you like the fact you can bridge his contract).

Truly this backend has the makings of greatness in it. Friendly reminder the broadcaster turned president told us he wants to build a championship team through the defence.
