Don’t think formations matter too much. All about the shape. “4-3-3” merely a guideline.
The listed formation is usually just the team shape when defending. That's obviously very broad though and can change based on situation. Also doesn't reflect what the team will look like in attack usually.

No choke on that one by Martinelli. No one on Palace even picked up Zinchenko, free header into a dangerous area.

Yea, the projected formation isn't always right and they have since updated it.
Oh absolutely. I'm just commenting because nerves.

LESS NERVES NOW. Martinelli makes up for his missed chance earlier after a fantastic header across by Zinchenko on a beautifully designed corner. Guaita was so close; have to feel for him as a keeper.

Obviously Arsenal has improved their squad this summer, but this Palace performance still looks so much worse than last season.

Where is Kouyate? He was massive for them last season

They lost their best player, Gallagher. Eze has been anonymous in his position. Doesn’t help that Zaha is a black hole.

I can't tell how much of each team's performance is down to the other.
Palace really tried to avoid just punting the ball up the pitch last season and praying Zaha and others got on the end of it. They have been doing almost nothing but that today.

Agreed, but Arsenal has been all over them, too, which Palace may not have been expecting.
