Right now it looks like he couldve beat wedgie but he is also injured right now so it shows having wedgie isnt a terrible thing
I am skeptical that he'd be given a real chance to beat out Wedgewood, and frankly the franchise's history backs that up. Granted, Trotz is still relatively new, but you can understand why that's a shaky argument. I'm more or less OK with the trade since the value was decent, but I also don't think there was a lot of risk in just giving the backup job to Askarov vs. the probably mediocre performance they'll get from Wedgewood.Whether it was the plan or not, if he couldn't beat Wedgewood out of camp he had no business worrying about playing in the NHL for the next season or two to start with. Heck if he couldn't beat out Wedgewood I'd say a path to being a #1 is the last thing on the list he should worry about, cause he isn't even close in that case.
