Feels like an overpay. You’d have to cut that package in half. EK contract is one Pitt will have to pay to get rid of when they wake up and realize the party is over.

The Pens only have 1 retention slot left. So say you are getting Karlsson at $7M. And Malkin at $6.1M. And they're ok with that with their NMCs. It still fits, if the RyJo termination is upheld though. Malkin is good, Karlsson I think would be a terrible fit with Josi already here, and would actually make our team worse. Maybe take this fantasy to just pursuing Malkin? He won't want to leave Pittsburgh obviously, but he's the player the Preds would at least benefit from.

Tomasino is not going anywhere
If he clears waivers he's probably going to Milwaukee at some point. Some team should claim him, however.

It would be interesting to see Malkin (or Crosby) with a new team. But it's just not worth suggesting it because there's zero chance it will happen. None.

The Penguins cannot make this trade because they do not have 2 retention slots available. Not commenting on the value beyond saying it seems like it's too much from Nashville, but the Penguins cannot make this trade.

If the Predators would be interested, I'd absolutely be willing to talk about Karlsson at $6-$7 million and what Nashville would give up for him.

From what I've heard (and what little I've seen), Karlsson has been a shell of his former self and is not worth pursuing.

Essentially, this is throwing away any hope of competitiveness now or possibly even for the next decade (since we give away most of our prospects to make it happen, therefore wasting all that time rather than having it as prospect growth time). Thanks but no thanks.

Beyond the retention slots, I’m not sure if Pittsburgh can pickup 3 net contracts.

EK65 is having a tough go now, but a) he didn’t have a preseason and b) Pittsburgh has 1 suitable partner for EK65 and Letang. I expect him to regress to his normal excellent Offensive d-man play.

OUR 1st? As in a potential top 5 lottery pick?

El. Oh. El.

No deal then.
I’m only saying that because I know that Penguins pick is the one that’s winning 1st overall

So fair enough , and congrats

Thanks, we will make sure you are miserable when it happens.
You are mistaken. I’m not a hater, I love Crosby and Penguins fans. And you can tell by my post history that’s true.

I’m still rooting for Penguins to win first overall, but in the chance they don’t I won’t be too upset because of you

So until then, enjoy Sullivan

Retention slots are a thing that stops your idea dead in its tracks.

Also no, Malkin isn't getting traded.

Should lock this one up, Crosby/Malkin/Letang won't wear another jersey if ownership wants to keep fans in seats
And at this rate, they're already struggling with that while having those 3, so losing one of them will really throw things off the rails for FSG and the goodwill of fans that really showed up for MAF to give anyone an idea of how beloved those 3 are. The Ducks game was the first time the Pens have dipped below 15,000 fans in attendance, I can't imagine how much worse it'd be if they traded one of the trio.

I think after a desastrous year, there will be more openness from both management and Crosby/Malkin/Letang side about trading them and start a true rebuild.

Personally, i think 2 of them will be traded before the end of their respective contract. Ideally, they should target McKenna in 2026 and DuPont in 2027 to start their rebuild on high heels like they did with Crosby/Malkin at the time. Timing is perfect for Pens to do it properly imo.
