Post-Game Talk: Preds @ Blows 3-23 5pm

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server

As much as I think Bruno is a bad fit for this team, I can't believe that Trotz thinks what we are putting on the ice every night is an NHL-caliber team, especially on D. Unless he's got some kind of 4-D chess move happening in the background, we're going to need a complete overhaul in both the front office and behind the bench.

On paper when healthy our LHD group is fairly decent though our #1 is older
Josi
Skjei
Lauzon

On paper when healthy our RHD is very suspect at best
Blankenburg
Barron
Stastney/Del G/Wilsby

Then our extras Oesterle and Englund.

I don't see how you quickly fix this but it is probably be attempted through some UFA desperation signings.

Agreed, but if Trotz doesn't see it that way and chases Marner, we end up with another patchwork D and a disjointed, uncoached group of forwards. Lather, rinse, repeat

Josi seems to like playing right side. Given our depth of lhd, if healthy and in system that skew can play under, adding even 1 legit top 4 rhd would completely change our dynamic on d.

If Trotz wants the team to compete next season I highly doubt the opening night roster looks the same as the current one. The season's been lost for months, what would have been the point of strengthening the roster? Do you believe Trotz REALLY thinks this is a competitive NHL team currently, or is just the type of shit a GM says when the team is awful and you're not ready to make major changes yet and are biding your time until the season's over?

I think Trotz has been involved in hockey long enough to know that this isn't a competitive roster. But I also think he has so much pride/is too stubborn in his decision-making that he might be willing to keep pushing this narrative rather than make some desperately needed changes.

Plus he's also quite stubborn enough to allow his coach full autonomy with lineup/utilization choices, evidently. Nearing season end when there is absolutely NOTHING to be gained by playing our veterans and tweeners so much, there is simply no justification whatsoever for not putting our few remaining youngsters into consistently elevated roles down the stretch. I'm guessing Trotz is simply abdicating any responsibility to instruct Brunette otherwise. Maybe he agrees with Brunette's choices, maybe he doesn't, but I'm assuming it's more that he simply wouldn't interfere with his coach regardless. Which has been killing us all year, but is even more frustrating in these final otherwise-meaningless games. :help:

I like to keep thinking that he's deliberately going for the high pick but won't ever say anything other than acting like he's competing and making the best roster he can. Hopefully I'm not delusional, but it's a possibility.

I think Trotz' final undoing will be his stubborness. It's like he chooses one path and sticks to it no matter what. Which wouldn't be the worst thing if that "way" was something that could at least some day lead to success. This way sure as hell won't - it will lead to mediocrity at best but more likely it will lead to us picking in the 10-12 range most years.

I don't think he has the capacity or the willingness to think outside the box or let anything else than his own philosophy affect his decision-making. For a team that's trying to climb out of the basement, I don't think that's the right strategy.

I also hope Trotz has swallowed this disaster that is this season because he dreams of finally getting a legit 1C in the draft.

Of course we will lose the lottery, pick sixth, and draft the next Scotty Upshall and it will all have been in vain.

Trotz has always been stubborn. The final straw for me was when we acquired Foppa and instantly lined him up with Vernon Fiddler. I was like, we just traded for one of the best centers, even though he was broken down when we got him, and we put him out there with Vernon F'in Fiddler.
