I'll do my 2 teams and the Central...

TOR - Bozak / Marincin

PIT - Fleury/Murray ---> No goalie trade
PIT - Maatta / Pouliot ---> Goalie traded

CHI - VanRiemsdyk / Pokka

COL - Pickard / Colborne

DAL - (under 25 fwd/D...prospect or NHLer)

MIN - Scandella / Brodin

NAS - Arvidsson / Wilson

STL - Edmundson / Yakupov

WIN - {Enstrom} / Myers (must protect Toby?)

There's no way the Jets lose Myers. I'm not even a big Myers fan but with uncertainty over how long Trouba will be with the team, Myers isn't expendable. There's a steep drop off in the D after him. For forwards, they'll expose 3 of Perreault, Armia, Lowry and Dano. They'll lose a good player, but they have the forward depth to absorb that loss. Next year they likely have Roslovic and Lemieux making a push for the NHL roster and they barely have room for guys now.

I think LV will look at rising not overpaid older goalies
so Raanta from Rangers could be a pick

Greg Pateryn

Solid defensive defenseman who is coming into his own and can really skate (believe it or not). Won't really hurt MTL though as they have a couple of young studs coming up soon enough.

If I am not mistaken Maroons contract is up after this year so unless they sign him before the draft he can't be exposed . (Not very likely that they do it if they want to keep him). Otherwise a pretty darn good list and probably a close guess on how it will be. I would say though that it's easier to do a list like this after the trade deadline because then we will know who every team has and who they need to protect.

So what's the protection list like like then?

Wheeler Scheifele Little **Armia**
Byfuglien Enstrom Trouba Myers
Hellebuyck

With Armia potentially swapping with Dano or Perrault or Lowry?

So Morrissey and Ehlers are exempt?

UFAs and RFAs can be exposed.

The NHL even fit in a rule specifically for Vegas to talk to UFAs before the draft to see if its worth selecting them (or if the player would just refuse to re-sign).

Only catches are each team has to have a minimum of players with 2017-18 contracts that are exposed (and with minimum games played requirements) and Vegas can only select up to 10 pending UFAs or RFAs (ie. 20/30 must have a contract next year).

Neuvirth is not under contract for next season at the moment.

For the Flyers, it will likely be one of the following players:

  • Matt Read
  • Dale Weise
  • Scott Laughton
  • Nick Cousins

The 4 of them are competing for 1 available protection slot right now (Giroux, Voracek, Simmonds, Couturier, Schenn, Raffl have the top 6 spots)

If Michael Del Zotto is extended prior to the end of the season, you can add LHD Brandon Manning to that list.

My money is on Matt Read.

Hes under contract for next season as well...he'll need to be exposed unfortunately.

I believe the Oilers will lose one of Davidson or Maroon.

I'm expecting the Penguins to lose either Cole or Schultz, both have been playing extremely well this year. The Pens could afford losing Schultz, but losing Cole will hurt.

Calgary will lose one of Jokipakka, Kulak, Brouwer. If LV is looking for some veteran leadership, Stajan might also be on the cutting block.

Depends on who they protect. Drai, RNH, Eberle, Lucic, Kassian, Maroon + one more forward, Larsson, Klefbom, Sekera and then Talbot. McDavid, Nurse are exempt. We expose Pouliot, Davidson, and lose one of them. Or Russell.

They have so many options at D, so I doubt they take Jack Johnson, for example.

They can get a forward like Jenner/Anderson/Karlsson from Columbus, who would be one of their best forwards. If I had to pick one right now, I'd say they pick Josh Anderson.

From what I've been reading, the Wild fans wouldn't mind trading TWO defensemen (probably Scandella and Dumba) for (auto-protected) assets, but trading just one doesn't really help "beat" the expansion draft at all.

At forward, I see Parise, Niederreiter, Granlund and Coyle as guys I'd protect. It'd be nice to protect Haula, Koivu and Staal as well, but maybe I'd protect Scandella over all 3 of them. Pominville or Zucker isn't a big loss.

Maybe they trade Dumba for futures and Scandella for a forward they will protect. Which then exposes one of Haula Koivu or Staal. In which case, just keep Scandella?

Definitely a difficult situation for their GM. Even if he gets only auto-protected assets for both Scandella and Brodin, he then has to take those assets and bring in a top 4 defenseman post-expansion if he wants to compete.

You are missing Pominville's NMC.

I hope the Oil offer LV a pick to take Pouliot and they bite. We could use the salary for McD and Drai extensions plus it's not like he's that bad, can play pp, pk and top 6. Getting Maroon and Lucic made him expendable for what he brings.

You do realize the Filppula has a NMC so he would need to be protected. And now way does Detroit leave Mantha unprotected that's not happening.
