For Calgary, there's some real question as to what they'll do this offseason.
Sort of a team of two stories.
Story 1: You had a 96 point season, and probably should have gone to the playoffs, they were probably a better team than 3-4 of the teams that actually made it. The team sorely missed scoring/creativity. Zayne Parekh looks like he's going to be a legit player, and certainly helps on the creative side of things. Add in an additional 10 goals this year, and this was probably a 100+ point team.
Story 2: Your offence was a bottom 3 team. Your defence had at any given time 3 guys who are 7th defenders on most playoffs team. You have one of the elite young goalies in the NHL that covered up some of the really ugly warts this team has. With the backup in net this was the 10th worst team in the league points wise; comparable to the Islanders. You have a really good prospect group that probably doesn't get the love it likely deserves, but there's really no blue chip guy at forward who is remotely close to stepping in and giving you 60-70 points on your top line.
So it'll depend on what story Conroy sort of follows. By all indication he's been a 'stick to the end goal' kind of guy, which means no knee-jerk signings or trades. His big trade was a no-brainer for us bringing in Farabee and Frost; Frost provided a shot in the arm in terms of creativity, while Farabee struggled through the remainder of the season (a lot luck driven).
The way Rasmus Andersson's season-ending presser went, even guys in the know like Ryan Leslie think that he's probably done as a Flame.
So I could see:
Trading Rasmus Andersson
Seeing what the appetite is for Blake Coleman.
Signing a mid-tern LHD in the offseason (3-4 years) who can play in the top 4.
Letting kids fight for spots out of camp.
Bringing in guys of the Mantha ilk to sort of be tweeners if no one grabs the brass ring.
