My predictions :

A

1. Russia
2. Czech Republic
3. Switzerland
4. Belarus
5. Sweden
6. Great Britain
7. Slovakia
8. Denmark

B

1. Finland
2. Germany
3. Canada
4. Latvia
5. USA
6. Norway
7. Kazakhstan
8. Italy

Honestly, I don't even know how to begin with these rankings. The outcome of this tournament is as unpredictable as it possibly gets: strong teams with relatively weak rosters & weak(er) teams with strong rosters.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if Switzerland would go all the way. They look very good on paper and go figure if they manage to get Josi from NSH.

I haven't really looked into Group A, but here goes Group B

1. Canada
2. USA
3. Finland
4. Latvia
5. Germany
6. Kazakhstan
7. Norway
8. Italy

Finland actually has a pretty bad roster too.

Also, I'm assuming Canada and USA both take the group stage seriously, which might not be the case.

But, despite Canada sending their worst team in years, they look like strong favorites in this group. Everything else is up for grabs I'd say. Even Kazakhstan can make the QFs.

Germany have one of the best rosters at these games, -minus Draisaitl and maybe 1, 2 players, they have their best possible roster,
in my book, they will be the huge favorites against both USA and Canada and should be beating them and would be a surprise if they didn't.

I put USA to 5th, but even that could be too high for them, i have never seen as bad as roster what the USA hockey has brought to Latvia,
USA super lucky that there's no relegation this year, i think these games could be historically bad, but that said, i think they'll beat
KAZ, NOR and ITA

Yeah, you're completely off the mark on all counts.

Germany's forward corps is probably the 5th best in the group. Look at their actual roster and compare it with that of Canada.

Some of Germany's leading players are NHL 4th line, bottom of the barrel scrubs.

There's very little overlap in quality with Canada. Danforth would be a top line guy for Germany.

Group A
Extremely even top 4. Russia should be the strongest on paper, but I rank Switzerland very highly this tournament. Good roster with a lot of experience and very solid goaltending. But really any of the top 4 can win this. Slovakia could still grab a QF spot if they get things working and one of the top 4 underperform. Belarus is certainly good enough to get points from everyone as well, but I would be surprised if they make the QF.

Group B
On paper Canada and USA are a step above everyone else in this group and should make the QF comfortably. Latvia and Germany will battle for the last QF spot but are also good enough to make Finland work hard for their spot (but as always Finland might overperform versus how strong they look on paper). I would give Latvia a very small edge versus Germany. Norway should be good enough to challenge Latvia and Germany, but would also here be surprised if they are consistent enough to really challenge for QF. Kazakhstan could be able to beat Norway if their Goaltending proves to be decent, but I don't expect them to achieve much more than that.
1. Canada

Well, actually we’re missing:
Draisaitl, Kahun, Stützle, Grubauer, Bokk, Sturm and Michaelis

Bokk and Michaelis might not be high impact players, but the others are not exactly unimportant. Sturm has quite the season this year.

But the history shows us, that CAN and US needs Top-Teams with some NHL-Stars etc. to play a good tournament.

I honestly think that inviting some of the leading Europe/KHL-based players is a major improvement over sending your usual NHL 3rd-liners.

As for USA, their lineup is so young, that they're too young not to care and not to have some real passion for the game. They also have the 3 best forwards in Group B.

It does humble you, but the depth of their hockey programmes is so enormous relative to Europe, they can afford to send their nth best roster and still be the favorites.

1. Czech Republic
2. Sweden
3. Russia
4. Slovakia (just optimistic that our youngest team in history will outskate and steal a win against one of the favorites)

8. Great Britain

US never Favorits! Other european B, C Teams are better than US B or C Teams(IIHF-WC). This shows the history.

A:

1. Russia
2. Czech Rep.
3. Switzerland
4. Sweden
5. Slovakia
6. Belarus
7. Denmark
8. Great Britain

The first four look pretty equal in terms of quality, and Slovakia/Belarus are as well looking quite equal.

B:

1. Canada
2. USA
3. Latvia
4. Finland
5. Germany
6. Norway
7. Kazakhstan
8. Italy

Latvia - Finland - Germany look roughly equal and can easily end up in a completely different order.
