Speculation: Predict 25/26 goalie tandems

I think Buffalo is going to try like hell to convince Reimer to come back...................and could very, very, very well roll with the 3-headed goalie monster of UPL, Levi and Reimer until our management pulls their heads out of their asses and realizes that Levi probably needs more time in Rochester.

Post your predictions here for which 2 NHL goalies will play on each team at the start of the 25/26 season, assuming every player is fully healthy.

- some backup goalies may or may not end up being outplayed by the callup and put on waivers to go to the AHL, with the younger waiver exempt callup becoming the NHL goalie. Examples: Askarov with Tarasov, Cossa with Pickard, Dobes with Primeau, Levi with Lyon, Wallstedt with Vladar.
Unfortunately ours is very likely to be Mrazek (until injured) and Talbot (until injured).

I was hoping Calgary would be able to target Quick to backup Wolf, but he re-signed with the Rangers.

I don't see us acquiring someone like Brossoit, I figure it will either be an older vet to mentor Wolf (Allen and Andersen come to mind), or a young-ish guy to challenge Devin Cooley for the backup job (DiPietro, Bussi, Kahkonen types)

Tough decision for NJ this offseason, because Allen has been remarkable the 2nd half of the year

Daws has looked good in his limited time as well, and IIRC will require waivers started next season.

No chance Sogaard is Ottawa’s backup. They will try to trade him and either re-sign Forsberg at a paycut or bring up Merilainen.

If Sogaard cant be traded (1-way contract), he will probably be backup in Belleville. No chance they trust him with the starting role though.

Sharks won't pay Askarov 2 mil to be a #3 in the AHL. They'll get someone to platoon with him depending on what's out there.

I would do an Allen and Daws combo.

Markstrom is ass.

Askarov is 100% gonna be the #1 starter for San Jose next season barring injury.

They're more likely to add a veteran backup in free agency.

For the Avs, I think Blackwood/Wedgewood is what they start the season with, assuming they are both healthy. But, I'm also hoping Nabokov comes over and plays well enough to make it a more difficult choice by the end of the season.

I just put the goalies that need waivers in the NHL and the kids who don't need waivers in the AHL as a default.

Sharks could add Andersen and Tarasov and then waive Tarasov if Askarov outplays him (likely). If not, start Askarov in the AHL and trade Tarasov for a pick in October / November. Competition is generally good, and if Askarov can't outplay Tarasov, he's better off starting in the AHL than playing backup to Andersen.

I don't think they'll do all that. They're pretty confident in what they have in Askarov. I doubt they'll get a 3rd goalie that is a legitimate competitor for an NHL job. They will probably just re-sign Romanov and Carriere to handle AHL duties until an injury makes them do something. They'll definitely get a replacement for Georgiev though.

Columbus will have two new men of the crease next year! No chance either Tarasov or Elvis is back. Greaves may be one, but they will add a veteran, possibly two. I also think the possibility exists that they sign Ivanov and have him come to play in the AHL. If he re-signs in the KHL that typically means a multi year deal and could push him out of an opportunity. maybe... but for this thread, there will be two incoming for the CBJ

I also think it'll be Montembeault / Dobes, but we're not getting rid of Primeau. Worst case he asks for arbitration?

Greaves will need waivers now, same with Sogaard, Daws, Soderblom, Silovs and Schmid. They're either playing in the NHL or going on waivers.

My understanding of Greaves is that he's too good / has too much potential for CBJ to waive him. That is, assuming he doesn't magically look worse at training camp. I don't claim to be a CBJ expert though...

It makes sense to me that they basically just re-do what they did this season. Montembeault and Primeau with Dobes as the callup, and then at some point Primeau could potentially play himself out of an NHL roster spot again. Or not.

I think the backup position won't be given on merit. It'll be a straight competition going into camp, and then we'll see if they have to waive or trade.

And yes maybe they'll trade Primeau before that happens, I just don't think it'll be a priority.

I don't see why they want a kid like Dobes to be a backup so early on in his pro career, with multiple years of waiver exemption still remaining. If they think he's got real potential, he should be getting lots of starts ( = AHL). Being a backup has the potential of derailing his development.

I think the Flames just re-sign Vladar. It’s not like they’re going to let him walk because they need cap room. And he’ll get some decent playing time.

He's going to be 24, lets not exaggerate.

Correct. They’ll either let Tarasov walk or waive him and Jet will back up either Elvis or whoever is brought in to replace Elvis.
