Whether it's with Crosby or whoever else, Stamkos should be playing with St. Louis. Any suggestion to the contrary is madness and reeks of trying to build an all-star team designed to look frightening on paper instead of one that will actually win tournament games. If anyone should recognize this it's the Lightning's GM, but then, he didn't in 2010, which was also absurd.

They don't win NHL games together, what makes you think they'd win tournament games together?

I have him as the 13th forward, personally.

yeah, but which one is the one that doesn't win NHL games? the guy with two 20 point playoff runs and a ring to go with his two scoring championships, or the guy with 13 points in 18 career playoff games?

given also that stamkos' natural position is hella deep and st. louis' less so, seems like stamkos is the guy you'd want as the 13th forward/PP specialist no? (or is that what you were suggesting? it's unclear.)

Yes, Tampa didn't win games because of the 1st and 2nd leading point getters in the league. Hall and Eberle haven't won NHL games why makes you think they'd win tournament games together?

Not only that, but what about the goaltending - Luongo's never won a stanley cup, who knows if he's even capable of winning gold at the olympics!

Here's my current 25 man roster.

E. Staal-Crosby-Tavares
Stamkos-Giroux-St.Louis
M.Richards-Toews-Nash
Couture-Bergeron-Sharp
extras: Getzlaf, Hall

Keith-Doughty
Hamhuis-Weber
Pietrangelo-Subban
extras: M. Staal, Letang

Luongo
Crawford
Price

I'd be worried about Getzlaf and Perry on the big ice. I picture 2006 in Turino and cringe think the slugs we had on that team. I'd probably cut Perry and bring Getzlaf along. He's just too good. I'd have him ready to step in immediately wherever needed. The two guys I have in my top 12 forwards that others may not are Sharp and Couture. Two well rounded players who can play multiple positions. Both can score and are defensively responsible. Put Bergeron between them and that's a heckuva 4th line.

My focus on defence is taking some left-handers. The only surefire one on the roster is Duncan Keith. Hamhuis is a good pick in my books. Very responsible defensively and will be able to get around well on the big ice. Marc Staal is another consideration and I'd take him as a third left-hander.

IMO Hamhuis will make it with the lack of LH defenseman and he's pretty underrated.

He was also 24 years old in 2010. He was a kid playing in his first Olympics in his hometown. Think of the pressure of that!

Since that experience, he's won two Stanley Cups, he's gotten more mature, and he's a 28 year-old man in his prime. Not the best skater, that is true, but he is virtually never out of position, so his mediocre speed really isn't a liability. In addition, you simply cannot put a value on the pre-existing chemistry that he has with Duncan Keith. It would foolish to not put him on the roster.

That's the thing, they were banking on his chemistry with Keith last time and by the end of the tournament, Keith was in the top 4 and Seabrook was on the bench...the guy just couldn't hack it against the level of competition in the Olympics where rosters are far more staked then they are in the NHL.

Also, surprised by the lack of love by both Team Canada and the posters for the reigning Art Ross winner and the amount of love for Price who had one of the worst save% in the league for a starter last year.
