I think Trotz did worse because Yzerman only did it to add some depth and veterans for the rebuild while Trotz (one of the best coaches ever) thought signing a few 30+ guys would get an overachieving bubble team a cup.

Depends on your definition of game breaker. He’s paid to be a top line scoring threat and I think a lot of people expected him to continue at a 40g pace. I don’t like to call anyone a PP merchant because it’s usually a lazy take but Stamkos isn’t nearly the player he once was at even strength anymore and can no longer play centre.
Could not agree more about Trotz, love him

We have Norris but I don't think it would work out I'm not sure what pieces the Preds would send back and I don't think they have the room Cap wise sadly.

Maybe they should've invested in a Center instead of dumping a huge amount into a pair of old RH goal-scoring wingers, when their best forward was already a RH goal scoring winger. :dunno:

Trying to get Top-6 Centers is hard and expensive. Nobody wants to trade the ones they've got, 'cause if you've got a few of them, you've got realistic playoff ambitions.

The only things even close to consistent ways to get them are to either draft and develop them (which Nashville has historically been completely incapable of doing), or you have to go out and be willing to "overpay" by quite a bit to land outbid and land one who is too old/signed for too long in UFA. Where you're largely looking at guys with serious warts or major concerns about their age/health/footspeed/two way shortcomings/etc. If their previous team is willing to let them go, it's always going to be a major gamble.

But it still would've been better to gamble on something like that, rather than a winger/PP Specialist like Stamkos.

Nashville been trying to address their center position for a decade, first johansen, then turris, and lastly Duchene. Let’s hope trotz has better luck then poile
They've been trying since their inception. Check this link out, scroll to the drafted players and sort by position. C should appear first. It's dismal how bad we've drafted at the position you need to build your team around. Poile tried to build from the back end out and it's why he never won a Cup. Trotz, by signing Saros, decided to go down this same path, even though he stated when he took over that he knew they needed centers. We'll be stuck in the mushy middle for a long time.

Don't think that's a good trade for SJS tbh.

I wouldn't mind it. He's a vet who has Captained his team 2 Cup wins. More importantly he's not injured long term like our current captain.

I think he'd have a more positive impact on Celebrini/Smith than Couture right now.

get in line: calgary, chicago, nashville

finding a team with a surplus of middle 6 center willing to trade could be a challenge.
Wouldn’t be surprised if Caps move one of their young guys. They basically had a 1C and 2C fall into their lap in Strome and Dubois so they are somewhat deep at that spot. I wouldn’t be shocked if either lapierre or mcmichael were moved for the right price. Not that they’re in a hurry to move those guys but it’s looking like a sellers market.
