32 Thoughts: Wild's Kirill Kaprizov should be in Hart Trophy race

On Friedman's 32 Thoughts:

"Know you love the rumours, but it is early. This is the 'we’re-still-seeing-what-we’ve-got' phase. Predators GM Barry Trotz has the second-best hockey radio hit on The Game in Nashville. On Tuesday, he told hosts Willy Daunic, Derrick Mason and Adam Vingan, “No one is trading anyone right now. I would like to get a centre, but no one is giving their centremen away.”

Two toughest things to find: a stud defender and a top centre. No more zero in the win column after Tuesday night, where they opened with Colton Sissons between Jonathan Marchessault and Steven Stamkos."

Right now, the Preds have a glaring hole at the 2C positions, almost at the 3C spot, too.

Think Kadri could be a great fit there. But not sure if the Flames will be trying to move him anytime soon after their quick start. Also could be tough to work out the money.

Nashville has 3 1st rounders this year. I'm sure Trotz will be looking to move at least 1 for a C.

I like Stamkos but the people who were confused as to why Tampa let him go - this is why. He can’t play C anymore and is basically a power play specialist. 8m is a lot of money for a guy like that. Now they need a 2C.

Did someone really think Stamkos was going to come in as a game changing C?

Yes, what Nashville needs is to get even older and end up where Calgary did.

Create a 1-2 year window with a flawed roster

I heard a few guys say it, yes and he’s paid to be one. I got someone mad before the signing saying he was a liability at even strength. I still think they make the playoffs but they aren’t winning anything. Good luck getting a 2C too.

Will be a difficult search but of all the teams that are potential buyers this year they definitely have the most assets.

He would be a good fit right now but I don't think there is any chance they could logically put themselves in a position where 30 year old Filip Forsberg is the youngest member of their entire top 6, with only 1 of those members expiring in the next 3 years. This is probably the most logical destination for someone like Zegras tbh

Why not try Forsberg at center. He played it with Sweden. Sure he's no Peter but he's got to be better than Sissons.
It sounds like the only things that haven’t changed are:
Top line staying the same of O’Reilly, forsberg, nyquist.
Jankowski on 3rd line wing

Everything else has been a blender

Did you see the ages of the two FA's they signed? Do you see the age of ROR and Josi?

They are clearly committed to trying to win in the next 3-4 years. Whether you agree with their approach or not is a completely different story.

get in line: calgary, chicago, nashville

finding a team with a surplus of middle 6 center willing to trade could be a challenge.

This is a nothing story. Lot of teams looking for centers, teams with centers arent selling any that has value.
Lots of teams didn't spend $114M in the off-season, aren't in win-now mode with the 2nd-oldest roster in the league and haven't started the season with only 1 win in 6 games. Of all teams looking for centers, the Preds might be the most likely to do something about it sooner.

Never understood why they traded Granlund away, looks a bit silly now with his resurgence with the Sharks, as a 1C even. Guess he's not the fastest player but that hockey IQ makes up for a lot.
Different GM and the team was in a very different position. Poile was trying to clear cap space and get some picks on the way out the door that would allow Trotz to go in whatever direction he wanted to go. Granlund wasn't very good that year, shoot Pittsburgh fans about burnt this place down when they traded for him.

6 games, lets not give us another loss before we earn it

Something around Zachary L’Heureux for Brock Nelson.
That's one player I doubt he is going to be willing to move. That guy probably had Barry Trotz sweating playing the other night with his hitting and going to the net.

Well minus the one guy that is an actual center, Parssinen. They haven't even given him a shot at the position, he's had 5 minutes on a poorly constructed 4th line all season. It's what has alot of Preds fans irritated at Trotz's comments. He hasn't even tried all of his internal options yet and is already telling the world he can't find a center.

Still doesn't solve the "no seller yet"-issue. Which teams with centers to spare is looking to sell and within Preds cap range?

Stamkos is an $8 million player and he has the same amount of points as Luke schenn

We talk about all these highly paid players in the league who aren’t contributing, and asking depth players to play on their line hoping it sparks them.

Stamkos simply has to produce,
Tommy Novak has 3x as many goals as him.
He’s getting the minutes
He’s getting close to 80% offensive zone starts

Just has to do better

90% sure this is where Nelson will end up. Trotz had had him on the island so there is familiarity there.

Won’t be until closer to the deadline though. Maybe late December or January

Bruins have Elias Lindholm, I am sure and would like to see something worked out.

I'd agree but watching him he's not really a puck driver at this point. They had to know this going in. I think the next step is to play him with Forsberg and ROR to see if that changes anything. He needs someone to give him opportunities for clean looks at this stage.
