TONIGHT'S MATCHUP

Seth Jones tallied 63 points (15G, 48A) in 199 games with Nashville from 2013-16. Another former Predator, Craig Smith has recorded six points (5G, 1A) in eight career games against the Predators, including goals (2G) in his last two games versus the club. During their last meeting on Jan. 16 in Nashville, Tyler Bertuzzi notched two assists, while Connor Bedard and Alec Martinez each scored during a 3-2 overtime loss to the Predators.

LAST TIME OUT

Chicago dropped a 4-3 overtime decision to the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday at the United Center. Ryan Donato (1G, 1A) and Teuvo Teravainen (2A) each recorded two points. Alec Martinez and Lukas Reichel each scored while Connor Bedard and Ilya Mikheyev each tallied an assist. Seth Jones ranked first among all game skaters with three hits, while he shared first with four blocked shots. Arvid Soderblom made 34 saves as the Blackhawks went 1-for-1 (100%) on the power play.

THE RYAN KING

Forward Ryan Donato posted two points (1G, 1A) against Edmonton and has a career-high 32 points (16G, 16A) in 51 games this season. Donato has also tied his single-season career high in goals with 16. He currently has points (1G, 2A) in back-to- back games and four points (2G, 2A) over his last four games. Donato is now three points shy of 200 for his NHL career, having tallied 197 points (93G, 104A) in 454 games.

After the negative media comments towards Bedard recently, a big game sure would be nice.

Tonight sure would be a nice time for his first career hat trick, or at least a multi-point game.

f*** messier, Subban, biz, Carter and the main boards. f***ing losers.
It's actually kinda wild how much scrutiny Bedard is under. I guess it comes with the territory of being a top prospect drafted to an Original 6 team. Do feel bad for him. If Hawks didn't move up and were like 2022 (Korchinski/Nazar/Rinzel) 2023 (Fantilli/Moore), 2024 (Levshunov/Boisvert/Vanacker), 2025 (Hagens or Misa then whomever) and then 2026 they drafted first and got McKenna, that guy is walking into a much different situation for the 2026-27 season.

I have no issue with criticism of his mistakes but these fellas offer no context to what he has to do for this team offensively.

Strongly agree with this. Over Bedard's 110 or so NHL games he has played with less NHL caliber offensive talent than anyone that I can think of. The fact that he's almost a PPG player says a lot about his offensive talents.

There are 7 active defensemen.

Someone has to sit.

Allan has been outplayed by everyone else.

What are people failing to comprehend?

I agree that when Crevier comes back, Allan should be sent down. He can come back if we ship out a defenseman at the deadline.

I mean, I don’t even think you can believe that. That’s how bad Brodie has been.

Brodie is quite a bit worse but that’s beside the point.

It’s bad for his development to sit everyday.

It shouldn’t be the same kid everyday.

What are you failing to comprehend?

I question if you watch the games if you say the Brodie has played better than Allan.

Usually I’m on team tank. But I’d prefer if Bedard sends a message tonight. He’s being unfairly dumped on for too long.
Do you think Chicago as a whole is being too sensitive about the national focus on Bedard? Listening to Friedman today on 32 Thoughts made be wonder that.

Well, number one, if I was Bedard, I would take it as a compliment. And the reason I would take it as a compliment is Wayne Gretzky's game got picked apart, Mario Lemieux's game. Mario Lemieux, before Pittsburgh got good, people were ruthless about his game, I remember as a teenager.

Crosby's game was picked apart, yeah, McDavid's game was picked apart, Matthew's game has been picked apart. The best players of their generations when they first got into the NHL, all of their games were picked apart. So on one level, I think that is a compliment of Bedard that so much is expected of him.

He's a number one pick. He's a really talented player. And when people tune in, they want to be impressed.

And I don't see anything that anyone is saying about him being any different than what was said about all those other players I listed. So I think on one level, it is a compliment to Bedard that a lot is expected of him.

The one thing I think that's tough for him, and this is the challenge, is that there just isn't a lot else to watch on Chicago right now.

So if he's on a nationally televised game, he is going to get picked apart. And that's why I think Chicago is going to, like if Rantanen hits the market, or Marner hits the market this year, or any of those guys, they're going to throw, I'm convinced they're going to throw a big number at them. They tried last year with Gensel, they didn't get him, they were disappointed.

I think they go again. And one of the reasons I think they're going to do this is because they know they have to protect him.
when you watch the Blackhawks, he's the guy you're watching.

And so like remember we did that game in Vancouver where he went back and he was so crushed and disappointed. And like his game got picked apart on our broadcast too that night. It was a really tough night for him.

It's because when you're talking about Chicago, that's who the fans want to hear about, good or bad. That's if you're a commentator, that's who you're watching, good or bad. There's nobody else like that you're watching as much as him.

So it's almost set up for the fact that hey, we've got the Blackhawks on our national broadcast tonight. Who are we going to talk about? Well, we're going to talk about Bedard.

And everything that he does is going to be spotlighted. If it's good, it's really good. If it's bad, it's really bad.

And that's why I think they need to find elite level help for him.
