Rags celebrating and Kreider talking smack at the Isles bench after beating literally the Isles sixth goalie. But preseason or not that was one of the worst periods of goaltending I have ever witnessed in an NHL contest. Varly allows zero goals and then this guy comes in and allows 5 on 13 shots. Wow, that is humiliating.

It's bad luck to win all your preseason games in any sport....
We had an AHL squad out there besides our 1st line.
As I posted earlier...

It seems that every time I watch the Isles they win. I missed the last 5 minutes of this game thinking it’s a sure thing and see the score. WTH happened?

I initially saw the result and thought, "Ahh, 6-4 loss at the Garden... Ok, but hey, nice to see we scored some goals."

Then I just saw the highlights.

And in light of our lead-blowing woes last season, this was absolutely disgusting.

Our guys were winning 4-1 with just 6:10 left in the game.

Pre-season or not, you don't allow 5 goals against in that timespan.

Just disgusting.

In the context of last season it is bad.
However, it was preseason and the young goalie just had a shocker.

Bolduc looked much improved in game 1 and I’ve thought Cholowski has looked good in both games

George needs a lot more work, might take him 4-5 more years if he does ever make it

The game kind of swallowed George up last night. Glaring to me was in the 3rd period, on a delayed Rags penalty in our D zone that eventually led to the Horvat goal, George got pressured in front of our empty net looking for an outlet when he had an easy out up the boards. He has to make a quick, decisive move there. He hesitated in front of our empty net. Could have been costly.

George is years away. I think he's got bottom pair potential, but he's going to need to get stronger. Not at all worried about slower than ideal decision making in first NHL preseason game.

Didn't see anything but the highlights, but I did see that Barzal/Horvat were out for a couple of goals against late in the game. Any context there? Like did they overstay shifts?

No. I think the second one was off a faceoff loss. assumed Roy put them out there as a veteran line to calm things down in the D zone. Instead Horvat lost the faceoff and it ended up in the net.

The disturbing part about the 3rd period breakdown is that it was mostly us losing our poise when the Rags started to push. The last 7 minutes of the period saw us fumble just about every puck in the D zone. Worst culprits, in my opinion, were Engvall and Dobson/Romanov. But everybody was guilty. Especially Tikkanen. He played himself out of any consideration.

I'd be more pissed if I was a Rags fan where their starting lineup slept walked through 2.5 periods against a half AHL squad.

Good on the Isles to jump out to a lead with their starting tender.

The first line chemistry it a major bright spot with our shiny new toy, Dookie, showing the speed & skill we were desperately lacking outside of Barzy.
