I want to make a thread to appreciate our great Captain on what I think was his greatest leadership year in his marvelous career.

He was relied on offensively, defensively, on the PK, on the PP, off ice etc... all at the age of 40 while playing 2nd most minutes on forward.

If Alfie's rolling so is the team. At 40 years he is still the backbone of this team when all the stars went down, he remained a star helping in the development of our young Swedes and other great prospects who wouldn't be doing as well as they are if it wasn't for Alfredsson's impact.

What probably got to me the most was how he looked like the most excited person on the ice and the bench every time we scored. This game means the world to him and he loves to win.

Cheers, our great Captain.

I pray you come back next year for your second cup in a row ;)

Should chant in SBP "One more year", "One more year" on the 11:11 time of the period, instead of alfie.

Alfredsson was great this season. As he always is. I think he is playing the best hockey he has in a few years the last while. Regardless of what shows up on the score sheet. Having Michalek back was huge. Now Alfie has an all-star class goal scorer to pass to and give and go with.

The key for Alfredsson this playoffs is to not try too hard. Not try to take his team on his back. The looser Alfredsson is, the better he is. He works hard and competes hard regardless, every shift. When he really tries to take over a game or a shift he often works too hard and tries to do too much himself. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't back 10, 12 years ago. Now... Alfredsson needs to play within himself. Because that is good enough. 40 year old Alfie is good enough. Don't get frustrated because you can't do the things you did at 25 or 30 years old.

Because playoffs are so important, and because we need Alfie on a top line mostly with Michalek and Turris... I hope Maclean employs this tactic. Play Alfie with the top line mostly... but if Zibby or Silfverberg or Pageau or Conacher or Smith need a pick me up. If they are not effective for a game or more... throw Alfie out there for 2, 3, 4 shifts with the struggling forwards. Create offence, get confidence going for a line. Man, I would use Pageau and Alfredsson and any struggling forward. Play them with those two for a couple of shifts and their confidence and energy should hopefully be restored.

As soon as the Caps - Sens game went to OT and we had a clinch, it was obvious Karlsson and Alfie were gonna be in on the play that sent us there. I thought one of them would score, but they both got an assist. A fitting way to see him get an assist.

Anyways, great year from Alfie! He's definitely got more gas in the tank.

I can't see any hockey related reason for Alfie not to sign an extension. He can easily play many more years at a fairly high capacity if he wanted to but I expect he'll go 1 year maybe 2 at a time.

Possibly the short season helped since he looks fresh and seems to be enjoying the influx of new blood. In a longer season with the extra players in Bingo desperate for a call-up it would be easy to give him longer breaks to keep him at his peak even longer without hurting the team. I'm expecting him back.

All praise Alfie!! :yo: The man just keeps going, and is still one of the best forwards we have. He has been a great captain, and I'm glad he represents the Sens so well.

We are unbelievable blessed to have this man.

Even at the age of 40. He is schooling the NHL.

Whether it be game 5 OT winner to send us to the Stanley Cup.

Or the Franchise's first ever shorthanded goal to tie the game with under a minute left.

We praise you Alfie.

Alfredsson is truely an amazing player in the current NHL. He is looking better as he gets older, and may well be a new standard in older players playing in the NHL.

This thread needs some of this whilst you praise the Lord of Light.

The Alfie hath once said... aut viam inveniam aut faciam. :yo:

He's having my baby, back off!
