this is shockingly accurate

Coaching against this breakout / defensive posture is also shockingly easy. When you have equal talent and a better work rate with good goaltending a victory is almost guaranteed. (See Colorado v Oilers as Example A)

Woody is essentially relying on the superior skill of two players and the power play to win hockey games.

He’s the Mickey Mouse version of NHL coaches but with a better coaches vernacular and superior media availability powerstances.

everyone got it, except for that guy represented by the squiggles in the bottom left face off dot.

I'm absolutely hopeless right now. This team has no chance of real success and the people making decisions for the franchise at every level are absolute buffoons.

It's honestly a struggle and I don't remember when I last cared as little about whether Oilers win or lose a game.

Powerstance is the best nickname ever.
Ya, it’s a very appropriate one.

Serious follow up contenders were

happenstance - as in I just happened to be there and it happened (Woody’s coaching philosophy)
outdistance - the Oilers are being outdistance(d) by most other teams in the Western Conf for a play-off spot
substance - no context necessary

but the Grammy goes to @5 Mins 4 Ftg and Powerstance

I like word games. Do one for circumstance.

Mentioned it in the GDT last night, but I think this team needs to bring in a good top pairing Dman regardless of cost immediately. The top 6 is okay especially once Kane is back, and the bottom 6 would hopefully be easier to fill out (although it might be shored up once Kane returns depending on what's done for cap space), but there is no help coming to this D core, and the longer we leave the young guys to learn from Nurse, the worse off we are, and I'm not saying it's Nurse' fault either.

The best Oiler Dman Nurse ever played with was Klefbom. For Klef, the best he ever played with was Petry for a season. For Petry, the best he ever played with was Whitney on one ankle for half a season. Now we're expecting Nurse, who is continuing the line of having to learn from people who learned essentially on their own how to play D in the NHL, to be an example for Bouchard and Broberg.

I don't care if we trade every single draft pick this year and next, this team NEEDS to go for it right now. If the last few years of Mcdrai's current contracts don't include the playoffs every year, with at least 1 cup win, I really don't see why either would want to stick around when the organization has shown 0 signs of actually improving as a team while two of the best players in the modern NHL continue to improve year after year.

Imagine being Mcdavid and Drai on this team right now. Both looking to put up not only career best seasons, but they could both end up with more points than anyone in a single season since Lemieux in 95/96, and we're holding onto a wildcard spot for dear life. Somehow the team around them is regressing while they continue to get better.

Meanwhile Holloway is stuck on the 4th line playing less minutes for some stupid f***ing reason to this day

I've never understood this about NHL coaches. They'd rather play a veteran who they know doesn't have any more to bring above their head, than try a young guy in a scoring position.
I get that there's a risk to a young player being played above their head, but shouldn't they be given a fair shake simply due to the potential upside, when the downside is already so bad?

Hard to say.

They got the season right where they want it. The template of playing like crap, get coach fired, go on a heater and a deep playoff run worked so well last year they're trying it again.

Have the oilers made the worst player personnel decisions of any team in the NHL since 2006? Beyond obvious draft picks like McDavid and RNH.

I would probably go beyond that and say all of the major pro sports, no one has mismanaged having this much talent this badly.

Cleveland with LeBron (the first stint) would be the closest and even they made the NBA Finals (got destroyed though, lol).

We are exactly like Cleveland and Lebrons first stint there. Terrible management walked him out the door. Except McDavid isn’t from here and he won’t come back.

The Cavs even in that first stint were at least a regular season powerhouse though after about LeBron's 3rd season. He left because they would lose in the 2nd/3rd round of the playoffs and he didn't have a secondary superstar to play with.

To be struggling to make the playoffs while having the best player in the sport in his 8th season and even having another top 5 player to go with him ... it's virtually unprecedented.

Even the Penguins with Mario, I mean they were starting to win Cups at this point when Mario was 25/26.

Well it’s a different sport in that sense. It’s easier to carry a team in the NBA.

Yup, though what does it tell you when even in the NBA players need a GM to hit a home run for them and/or the more modern trend in the NBA is to simply super team and take that whole aspect out of the GM's hands entirely. You're not going to build me a championship caliber supporting cast in 5 years? Fine. I'm just gonna go team up with 2 or 3 other superstars, cya.

In hockey you really are f***ed if your GM doesn't know what they're doing.

MUST WIN!!!!! No excuses; this is a game the Oilers have to get 2 points!!!

The Oilers are toast. Campbell is gonna shit the bed in the next two California games and the Oilers will be all but done.

Holland won't do anything because of patience. But big changes will come in the off-season.
