how about we go old school and get rid of the bumper which hasn't done shit for us

Riely/Sandin on the points
AM/Willie on the halfboards
Spezza or Bunting net front

Marner and JT can anchor the 2nd pp

Thank you!! Run a freaking umbrella for a game or two. Every team in pro hockey plays a 1-3-1 and PKs are designed just to stop it. Let Rielly walk the blue line a bit and you could even have Spezz on the point for PP1 with his big shot.

Running this same doomed set up over and over again is like bashing your head against a wall and hoping that it won't hurt so much next time. This forward corps has too much potential to be squandered just going through the motions and killing time on the PP

Agreed. A different look definitely wouldn't hurt. I remember when then set up used to just be Kaberle to McCabe for a booming shot with Tucker off the the side of the net for tap ins. Everything else was creating havoc infront of the net. The first powerplay looked better last game with Nylander in the bumper and Marner back where he's used to, so maybe leave that set up as your 1-3-1. But the second unit could easily benefit from having maybe 2 D on the backend. Sandin and Muzzin maybe, as I think Muzzin is probably our heaviest shooting D man. Brodie is also an option as he's good on the PP when he's had that chance in his career. His shot wouldn't be as heavy, but he's good at getting pucks through. Throw Spezza on his off side after he takes the faceoff. Ritchie parked in front. And Bunting on puck retrieval (get it back to the point) and creating chaos darting in and out of the traffic. Not sure exactly who I'd use as all the pieces and how, but having two totally different looks I think would be a neat idea, and hard for teams to adjust to

This is a recurring problem so I feel it deserves its own thread.

Am I going crazy? Why am I seeing the exact same powerplay setup as last year. The powerplay was terrible to end the year, and its terrible to start this new season. What happened to Marner willing to play "anywhere". Although they started to look like they had a pulse in the 3rd, this is a terrible Hawks team the leafs were playing.

So something is fishy here, either Marner lied about willing to play anywhere or the PP coaches are insane.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who noticed this, after taking a break from watching a few games I decided to tune in and this immediately came to my attention. Is anyone in the media brave enough to call out Keefe for this ridiculous power play strategy that we know opposing teams have over-scouted?

Whats the solution here, move Marner to the corner/more parallel to the net? The bumper play with Marner lasted idk how long, but what do we do to change it up? Not sure switching handedness works when Marner has no shot threat from the left circle.

Spezza should get an extended look on the top unit. He’s a dual threat. Great hands and poise with the puck.

Whatever your set up is, the players have to be allowed some creativity within the structure. For some, just like the playoffs, they want to do the same thing over and over.
