Power Rankings comedy

Can you imagine if the Leafs were having our season? They would be higher than number 1 .
I think you came up with the Theme for the rest of the year, Every game from here on in we change the name of our team to someone else for coverage and paint shop other logos from other teams, and they don't even have to be hockey teams!!!

Can be food products as well!

Most people said the same thing when Chevy didnt go full Nashville and spend money like a drunken sailor, including a few people on here. At least they arent doubling down on that mistake.
And another ranking:
Never go full Nashville

like a beaten dog you lick the masters hand....

"The Jets deserved to be ignored and dismissed...."

lolol....

so lets look at the last three seasons..
Record: 46-33-3 52-24-6 32-14-3(so far)
ROW: 45, 52, 34(currently)
Points: 95, 110, 71(currently)

so we get better each year, we WIN games...teams mostly bet us in the standings with OTL points....and we have the multi Veznia goalie....

but 2 1/2 bad games in the playoffs, (couple a bounces and who knows...we could have been up 3-1) and we lost a middling D man in DIllon, Monohan and tiffoli.... two old, slow rentals who pretty much stank from day 1.

and suddenly were fighting to make the post season?

I can see 15th for 23/24 power rankings...but to say 15th this offseason? lol only if you don't actually know what hockey is...

PS the Lightning Avs Bruins and Panthers all led the league, got bounced early in the post season...and none of them were ranked as poorly as the Jets....
Yeah, it's weird

Lots of talk about "sample size" but when you zoom out as far as you can on this group (personally I wouldn't include 2022-23 because of the roster shake up of the PLD trade), this team has put up 182 points in 133 games

Next closest is Dallas with 176

I think it's weird people would throw that all away over a 5 game sample size in the playoffs last year, especially when you have a "well regarded" stats guy toss out a 16 game stretch because it was an "outlier"

Furthermore, this team has managed to keep winning games a few different ways over the last two seasons. First there was that incredible stretch of "3 goals or less" games. This season, they lead the league in goals and PP%

I just don't understand how people (whether it's national media or negative fans) can't see that this is a well constructed, very good hockey team

What if I told you there was a team that had an excellent regular season, but was reportedly called a "total fraud" by another team's player heading into the playoffs - and then got absolutely demolished in Round 1. Not a plucky, couple-of-bad-bounces series loss, but a humiliating shitkicking like you've never witnessed in cap era playoffs.

Then, over the offseason, that same team lost 2 top 6 forwards (including their 2C), a top 4 defenseman, a good depth defenseman, and also the best backup goalie in the league - and did nothing to replace them other than sign a few more depth defensemen and bring in one of the worst backup goalies in the league.

In light of the above, do you really think it's unreasonable to suggest that maybe this team is not going repeat that excellent regular season the next year?

Edit: I forgot to mention, this team also lost its head coach who'd engineered the turnaround in the team's play over the past two seasons and was replacing him with a guy who drove the last team he coached off a cliff.

I think its pretty easy to put them back in the running when you are returning your core group including the 2 time Vezina winner in net. I mean they lost 2 rentals and Brendon Dillon. The biggest factors are we have a full healthy season of Vilardi, the continuing maturation of Samberg and the number 1 powerplay in the league. You have all that plus the continuation of the defense we are playing and its pretty easy to rank us much higher then 15th.

We still don't get much mentioned with the media despite leading the league. I can go to to TSN or Sportsnet and I bet I see articles on the Oilers yet we are 7-2-1 in our last 10 and they are 7-3.

To be honest the disrespect from everyone outside Winnipeg I can take but the disrespect from our own "fanbase" is what gets me

For outsiders though, who hardly watch any Jets games during the regular season (but maybe caught them in the playoffs to watch them implode)...bounced from the playoffs, losing 2 top 6 forwards (rentals or not), 2 of your 6 starting defenseman, and a 15 win .927 backup goalie, and the head coach who got them to 110 points - all replaced with downgrades or unknowns?

It's not unreasonable to predict that was going to shave 8 wins off the Jets total this year.

As for pessimist fans, 96.2% picked the Jets to make the playoffs in the pre-season poll. It wasn't a ranking poll, but the consensus seemed like 3rd/WC. Which are also reasonable preseason predictions.

what If i told you that being called a fraud...is meaningless. player coach or fan notwithstanding..
I called a guy a :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:er on the ice once....is he?

Lots of top of the reg season teams have lost out in the first or 2nd round...they pretty much always get ranked as "contenders" the next year....

so we lost rental players who did nothing and were a waste of time...and BRENDAN DILLON!!!!!! OH NO NOT DILLON!!!!!!! the greatest Dman ever!!!!!!
lol

we KEPT probably the GOAT tender of all time..which is pretty much THE MOST..we have the same players in what 20 of 23 roster slots.....which is incredibly stable for even a top team.....

lol "last team he coached off a cliff."....You mean Bowness? a man who coached us to a horrible PP and PK and could NEVER make in game adjustments? lol ask Dallas fans ... they were sooooo very glad to see the end of his tenure. when he left to tend his ill wife , jets went on a tear. Jets replaced him with the next man in our system...creating continuity and familiarity for the 20 of 23 players we kept on the active roster.

so if you say Jets are #1...then sure....that's a stretch If you say Jets are top 10 in the league...sure.
Jets will make playoffs and struggle to wuin a series? maybe....|

but Jets are cooked, window closed, bottom of thier divison, struggle to make th playoffs, time for a rebuild?

LOLOL.
and again...that's the Off season....how does that affect the HUGE lack of coverage and respect here and now?

Your worried about a backup goalie when the Jets this season scored 12 goals in 7 games for this backup goalie. I mean who cares about Brossoilt really he isn't going to win those 7 games for us. Hell if we scored a few in those games we are way ahead of everyone.

There is a general disrespect for the Jets amongst the talking heads. There is one for Helly in the media and online all over the place. There is disrespect for Chevy and the job he has to do here in Winnipeg.

I go on ad nauseum about the general disrespect we get that our own fanbase will constantly whine about about Stanley who is effectively our 6th D man and to be honest is probably playing some decently solid hockey that if he was somewhere else they would likely be happy to have him on their 5/6 pairing

I have been apart of these boards for a long long time now. Before the Jets came back, I followed the Oilers through some tough years for them and I can't imagine having the GMs and ownership they have had here and I couldn't imagine having to live through the ineptitude of those years with this fanbase. We have gotten really spoiled for a team that can't sign anyone that when we get some success we want to sabotage it and discredit it.

Enjoy it. Ask how things are in Ottawa or Buffalo or hell even Toronto. We only got Helly for so long and guys like him don't come along so often.

Did that guy immediately go home and f*** his own mother? Because the Jets were called frauds and then subsequently imploded in the playoffs in such spectacular fashion that it lent some merit to the notion that they were, in fact, frauds...

And then your post just gets crazier...

Monahan and Toffoli did nothing? Not how I remember it.

Dillon and Schmidt were definitely 2 of the 6 starting D last year, no matter how much you apparently...hate them in hindsight?

Regarding goaltending, Brossoit to Comrie is an objective downgrade at backup. Brossoit won 15 games this year. We'll be very lucky if Comrie cracks even 8 wins.

And...are you saying Scott Arniel should have been considered a consensus upgrade on Rick Bowness? Bowness sucked? Well, that's a take...

I don't know who was saying the Jets were cooked in the offseason, but I am starting to get an idea about who is cooked right now... ;)

I was in the 5.9%. It's a shame @Mortimer Snerd poll settings were set to not show how each member voted. I wonder if this setting can be corrected after the fact?

I agree that there's a general ignorance and disrespect around the league for all things Winnipeg Jets. The Eastern Conference gets way more notice and, in Canada at least, Toronto sucks up all the oxygen in the room. Edmonton only gets noticed because McDavid is there (and they did make it to game 7 of the Cup Finals last year).

But an impartial observer could've looked at the Jets playoff performance and offseason losses and reasonably predicted a significant fall in the standings.

I'm okay with the Jets and their players flying under the radar for the most part. You give them the Toronto Maple Leaf media treatment and suddenly everyone wants $12M/season. Just like Winnipeg being a place where a lot of players won't sign in UFA, it's a silver-lined cloud.

I don't think discussions about weaknesses or evaluating players, coaches, etc., is necessarily a sign of disrespect. I don't know why people get upset about it anyway.

I apparently missed that poll somehow...but I probably would've had the Jets slipping a bit to the 97-101 range. A lot of things had to go (and have gone) right for the Jets this year to be where they are.

I mean, of course we all knew replacing Brad Lauer would uncork the best powerplay in the NHL since records began (not a full season yet, but this is literally true at the moment). And that Hellebuyck would follow up his Vezina winning performance last season with an even better one this year...

This was the less granular poll I was originally referencing: The Central

I voted in the 97-101 point range, and I'd consider myself fairly optimistic regarding this team

Because of that, I can't fault anyone on here or in the media who predicted us finishing in 3rd place/WC prior tothe season starting

I think that is fair assessment but the talking heads had us missing the playoffs which is some bullshit

Until this team does something in the playoffs you're going to get these kind of rankings.

That's why you have to take any ranking with a grain of salt. If you could somehow rank the teams on the regular season only without ever seeing what happens in the playoffs, the Jets might get more love, but until the Jets stop treating the 2nd round of the playoffs as something to be avoided at all costs... they will get no respect.

teams get bounced all the time.
but pretending that the Avs are somehow 9 levels above the Jets is just as absurd.
we roasted the Avs last reg season...
they had a .908 career goaltender..last year..CAREER ...908....
guy played .957 the last 4 playoff games against....
he plays 908? we score a couple PP goals? there's a much closer series....

Avs have had 1 deep run in the last 7 years..... yes it was recent...but lets not pretend they are some unstoppable juggernaut. Avs were bounced in the second round.. last year...by Dallas...in a series that was as equally lopsided(equally unequal?) as the Jets......
most had them as contenders...lowest preseason ranking I saw? 6th....

Or even funnier...if the Jets resign two easily replaceable rentals.. which we can do again this year 100% just like we did last.....they are a contender? funny that didn't power us up the rankings...

Dillon and Schmidt? a couple of easily replaceable journeymen players?... which again...we can easily add any time...

As for backup goalie? ...lol that's the hill the Jets died on? If we had resigned our backup...suddenly we are contenders?
I never liked Bones.... you can search my history..
but it's not like we suddenly jumped UP the rankings when he showed up....did we.... so how much of an effect does "losing" a coach like him make us fall down the rankings.

if you have a narrative and want to push it...that stuff can make you ignore the Jets.. but only if you want it to.

Um. Not much of that is accurate. We lost 4 to 1, and game 3 was ours until Stanley got consecutive penalties. I'm pretty sure getting swept is closer to an annihilation.
We replaced Dillon with Samberg. Which is favorable over singing.
We lost 2 too 6 forwards? They were free agent rentals. But ya, Vilardi got healthy and grew immensely. Relied on Perfetti also improving to varying degrees of success.

But obviously the team has proved your assessment wrong. Internal guys stepping up is great. Signing and overpaying guys is hit and miss much of the time.

Great post, totally agree, it's very hard to win in this league . Atlanta had a winning record only 3 times in their 8 years . Since coming to Winnipeg we have had a winning record 11 times out of 13 . 11 times out of 13 is unbelievable especially considering there were absolutely no prospects in the Atlanta organisation when we got them. Chevy and Chipman have done a very good job with this franchise if you ask me. Yes i would and want more playoff success but that's a very hard thing to do just ask Toronto .

Bones wasn't perfect but one thing he did bring to this team was learning how to play a better 2 way game. When Bones was hired they hired Arniel as assistant to grow under Bones and groom to be our next coach because Bones was only doing it for a couple of years. I liked that idea and so far it looks like it was a great plan because Arniel is doing a great job.

to my eyes was Arneil who did the Deed...bones was window dressing...

the real event IMHO was the resolution of the wheeler/Pomo internal battle more so than Bones arrival...

my feeling on Bones is was and always will be...he's great at supporting players and pushing them to excel....it's just the X's and O's he can't handle.... when your getting burnt and looking for advice on how to deal with it.? not so good.
Based on some noise I heard out of Dallas it was
"hey coach, they keep burning us on the breakout what do we do?
"keep playing hard kid, do what you do...we'll get them eventually!"

no real ability to adapt to a team or game.
