I happened to read this power rankings from daily faceoff that suggests the Jets have collapsed. To be fair, they have hit a rough patch in the last 12, nightmare schedule a few injuries.... No excuses.
But the comment from Scott Maxwell, I have no idea who that is, insinuates we're in the same boat as the Rangers and have completely collapsed.
I don't see that. We're a highly competitive, playoff contending team; able to finish top 8 in the league. Similar team to last year.
The Jets are hated by these power rankings guys, which is hilarious to me. And it's funny seeing how wrong they all were about the Jets, Wild and Capitals, and conversely also wrong about the Predators, Bruins, Rangers etc, all teams that were supposed cup contenders.

Who is Scott Maxwell?

Power rankings are a blind statistical analysis of a teams basic w-l record and a few other numbers. These rankings never take into account the intangible effects of things like schedule, rest days, etc. on a teams performance. The Jets are much, much better than they were in November/early December (really tough schedule) so far, and are not quite as good as they were in October("easy" schedule).

Notice how the writer's only comments about the team was their win/loss record. Zero insight to even a single player, coach, team play, etc. Just answer small sample of win/loss and his own prejudice on the team. He spent more time writing that paragraph than watching the team.

Oh, he's from Toronto... that explains it.

I think you're giving power rankers too much credit. It's not statistical analysis. It's vibes.

Ya. I thought his analysis was comical. He basically basking in their losses claiming they've collapsed like he knew they would. Must be from Toronto

Yeah that's why these are power rankings, not overall rankings
For power rankings we should be lower than our actual rank since we've been in a small slump

I can think of a poster of two on HFJets that probably would have had them 32nd last week
TOO HIGH! :sarcasm:

Power rankings are just an alternative way of sorting the league by something other than points. Some are statistical, (e.g. sorting by goal differential is a power ranking), some are fancy-statistical (e.g. Moneypuck) and some are vibes/opinions (e.g. Daily Faceoff), or some combination of all of the above. Nothing really matters except the points (in terms of making it to the postseason)...

And they all want people to click links and argue/engage... so the hot takes are often there on purpose

Tell me you make your rankings without context without telling me you make your rankings without context

The fact that that Hunter guy uses the "don't even have an airport" joke, tells me how seriously I should take anything they have to say.

People here post all day every day about the Jets collapsing. Maybe they're onto something.

First 16: 15-1
Second 16: 7-8-1

😉🥓

On the Scott guy's loud hatred of the Jets: what kind of weirdo hates the Jets? We have never been dominant enough to warrant hate, nor are we a particularly dirty team, and the media is usually pretty mum on the Jets on account of how the fanbase isn't that big.

Sports media in general kinda sucks though. Lots of loud voices with very little to say.

Another funny comment from this Scott Maxwell character. He thinks the Jets are not only frauds but the only reason nobody has noticed is because the rangers are so bad??

I feel like there should be some off-shoot to Poe's Law that states that it's impossible to tell whether a person on the internet is a troll or an idiot.

Regardless, I don't think the dig "the Jets have slowed down, but still have the lowest number of losses in the league a week from Christmas" is very good.

I don't know who Scott Maxwell is, he doesn't seem to have any work beyond the daily faceoff power rankings but he's comically against the Jets. He's been claiming the "underlying numbers" aren't good. And he declared them as collapsing during their rough patch a while back.
Who knows. The Jets keep defying his "underlying numbers." If the Jets finish in the top 10 or more. Maybe the underlying numbers aren't accurate?
