Potential Trade Targets (2025 edition)

Would love Peterka but I highly doubt Buffalo is going to be moving a 23 year old established top 6 forward for futures.

Best way to get a deal done using a late first or two is going to be finding finding a guy heading towards rfa status where the team can’t/won’t pay them

Hi guys, not sure where to post this but with the acquisition of Knight you guys have a lot of goalies. The Oilers are in need of a goalie, which goalies could you see being moved out? Mrazek is probably the obvious choice but his play this season makes him a bit of a gamble. Any chance that Soderblom might move or that Knight might move before playing a game in Chicago?

It's gotta be Mrazek even if the deal is bad. He was always a stopgap for us.

Soderblom's development this year makes him not untouchable, but pretty close imo. We need multiple young goalies and he's looking very exciting.

I don't think Soda would be worth a lot on the market though, because his play this year could also just be a fluke. Nobody would touch his last year's version.

Only Mrazek is available, and he sucks so you wouldn't want him

Soderblom isn't untouchable, but you'd probably have to dangle Sam O'Reilly for Chicago to be interested

This is pretty accurate. Last year soda was annoying but goalies can be like that from time to time. This year soda is pretty good and would probably take the above.

It’s an interesting dilemma right now. Nothing needs to be forced yet though with season winding down.

Personal guess is they roll with knight and Soderblom going forward unless something makes sense with Arvid.

Why would Buffalo do that when they have Dahlin, Power, Byram, and Samuelsson in their top 4?
Because Samuelsson has been a borderline not NHL player and Byram is already back on the trade block as he hasn’t been very good either . That’s their entire left side.

And then they have Helenius, Rosen and Ostlund in the minors getting close to ready. So it may make more sense than you realize.

Which team wants to add Donato?

Upto Donato if he would extend with that team or go ufa in the summer.. If he goescufa Hawks coukd re-bid on hom.

Donato after his performance last night and 20 goal season has to be worth a 1st and a second (both late round picks from contender.
But probably not both in2025 draft .will hapoen..Or maybe Hawks go for 2026 and 2027 draft staggering.

Doubt they get a surefire top prospect for Donato..

Anyway question is which team needs a Donato so desperately we get top return for hom in his "career year".?
If we can list the most likely teams we could then look at a drafted prospect list to see if that woukd be a better return than just more late firstcand latec2nd roubd picks.

. Or we could package ...eg..Donato +Kk for a top drafted forward prize that teM has i their system.

Samuelsson might be getting bought out this off season.

Proves my point if true. They really have nothing in the system for defense and with them trying to move off Byram, it makes a lot of sense they’d want to acquire an almost ready NHL dman. Especially with their excess of forwards.

We need to have a serious discussion about the corpse of Elias Peterson…

There were rumors before he signed. He signed a monster deal and he’s broken.

Broken stars are cheap. Would you? I don’t think I would. But it’s worth a discussion

I don't think he'll be cheap, so no. If he's this bad next season, the price might go down.

I used to really like EP.

But until I know what his problem is, I wouldn't feel comfortable acquiring him.

That contract is a massive anchor if he doesn't get his shit together. The type of contract that ruins a franchise.

Not sure if this is possible but here it goes:

Wash:
Donato (2 Mill)
Murphy 50% (2.2 Mill)
Smith (1 Mill)

Chicago
Wash 1st
TJ Oshi (LTIR at 5.75 Mill)
AHL scrub

I think all pieces would be good depth adds to Washington but I'm not sure if my math works with the LTIR.
No retention spots available after SJ trade. Might be a little light with Hawks return but would make that deal.

Fair. But it can work the other way too. A 100 pt selke type for a bargain. But I think I agree with you, unnecessary risk for us to take.

I think the Hawks should do their due diligence (they probably already have).

Find out if it's an injury (if so, how severe), if it's mental, etc.

If it's the kind of thing you're confident you can resolve, then yeah take the bargain and watch him soar again.

But you have to be damn sure.

I think there are teams that should be taking a shot at Pettersson. Like Buffalo St Louis LA Detriot Carolina or Rangers. I dont think Chicago should right now. Just a bit too risky.
