I don’t think Bennett ages well. Loved his game back to Calgary days. He probably gets to much term like Stephson type of deal 7x7

Boeser isn’t that old and I think he scores into his mid 30s. Not sure the comparable for him in a contract negotiation

Point being in no world do you give Rantanen or Marner 8 figure deals. It also absolutely crushes our pay scale for retaining Bedard down the road. Exactly what Leafs did with Tavares

I don’t know. Can Bennett still not do a pull up?

Edit: found the link. Can’t believe this is 11 years ago

Regarding SJ, is the thinking that he is fairly priced at 5 million per real money, or 7 million per? Because in the last five years of his contract his cap hit is significantly more than his salary. Someone else said that he would be more attractive after his 5 million signing bonus is paid next summer because then he's owed about 7.2 million real money per year. If the Hawks retain 2 million per SJ would be paid about 5 million per by his acquiring team. Wouldn't he be a bargain at that price?

When I was looking at the Avs they don't have a lot in the pipeline at rd and Manson is breaking down. Manson has one more year left at a 4.5 hit but 3.5 real money. If they traded SJ for Manson its effectively like the Hawks traded SJ after (most of) his signing bonus is paid because the Avs are no longer on the hook for Manson.

I don’t know how much that matters to competitive teams anymore tbh.

Just IMO, but with most contenders at the cap it is the cap hit and not the real $ that significantly impacts the trade value.

IMO, SJ has significant value at $7M if he'd waive his NMC. Would think that COL or DAL would be looking for an upgrade on the blueline.

Barely even worth discussing anyone of note without realizing they're going to get a 7-year deal if they're switching teams.

Which is exactly why I wouldn't want Boeser or Bennett. Way too much risk for both of those guys to give them that much term.

I don't know if you guys saw this but the NHL just canceled escrow for the rest of the year. That means that the cap is likely going to $95M or more next year and will continue to rise quickly.

As of right now, the Hawks have 10 forwards (including Slaggert), 5 defensemen, and 2 goalies signed going into next year totaling $59M in contracts. Who knows what they do with Jones, Murphy, Brodie, and their cap hits and they may replace those cap hits with guys on their ELCs like Korchinski or Levshunov, or cheap RFAs like Kaiser or Crevier. If the cap is $95M, the floor is likely to be ~$71M.

Regardless, they're gonna need to spend just to get to the floor! It's looking like the cap will continue to rise significantly moving forward with new national TV deals being worth triple what the previous ones were, the COVID payments paid off, and the elimination of the Phoenix money pit. So let's not worry so much about giving guys money or term right now.

Jack Roslovic feels like he can be a target. Should be in line for a raise and a bigger opportunity that Hawks can offer. Thinking maybe a 4 year deal?
